Launcher stuck on updating the game to 18.08

The launcher wants to update the game to 18.08 but it's been stuck at "Preparing for update" with "0% Complete - 0.00Mbps" for the last 15 minutes.

Is this normal?

Never mind. After close to 20 minutes, the launcher finally came to life...

Exclude the program files from your antivirus, at least that helped for me with defender, It's really quite snippy now.

To me it seems fine to exclude the Elite Dangerous program file directory from the Antivirus, or do it temporarily while updating. Otherwise the alternative is a bit of patience..

I am having the same problem. Mine does not "come to life" after any amount of time (1-3 hours)? I even excluded the file from my AV. Should I consider uninstalling it and re-installing?
I upgraded my old 1TB HDD for a larger 2TB SSD. I copied the install directory from the old HDD to the new SSD. I am thinking that there may be a "mess up" somewhere? I re-installed the launcher several times but it just doesn't seem to connect to the update server?

Update - Uninstalled the game and deleted the files on my drive. Re-installed and all seems good!
