Launcher Update

Hi,
tried to login today for some more elite "elite" but it tells me my launcher needs an update. Went to my account and downloaded the alpha again, but it seems that the alpha launcher has not been updated, so am unable to launch the game. How do I run the update to the launcher?

Many thanks

The launcher for Alpha 3.0 has just been released just installed it myself, upgraded from 0.2.647.0 to 0.2.740.0.

Strangely enough asked for a reboot this time and looks like it is reinstalling the game. :(:S

Log into the store and re-download it :D I had no update button in my launcher...

It said check the news, but the news said nothing!!

Many thanks for the replies.
Completely uninstalled the previous version and downloaded again. My AV said it was harmful, maybe its getting confused with a certain status everyone knows and loves!!

Ran the download anyway and all seems to be fine now!

Alpha forum thread http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=12793

This is just a launcher update in preparation for Alpha 3, looks like it changes a few directories so you have to install the current version again which includes some core changes/fixes (see thread).

One big thing is that it no-longer requires administrative rights to run. This shows that it's one step closer to the final version but also possibly removes some of the debugging hooks for crash recovery.

Wishful thinking, but I really hope the final game just installs into one folder which has no reliance on the registry, or any other windows folders.

This will give us the ability to simply move the contents of that whole folder to another drive or pc without the need to reinstall the whole game again ... along with redownloading/installing the patches.

Only problem with this update is that you cannot choose where to install the game. It defaults to your C: drive - not such a big deal unless you're like me and have a small SSD for your OS, and a dedicated HDD for your games/software.

Actually I take that back, not being able to choose where to install stuff IS a big deal in 2014 ;)

Game asset files are still where they were.

Looks like it only installs some key assets to the users own directories, primarily the executable and some of the configuration and settings files.

However appconfig.xml is, once again, a new file so those with port settings will need to edit the file once more.
Also as the executable counts as a new file those in full screen should check if you are getting a windows firewall exception request popup again.

I wish that were the case. The 1.89GB FORC-FDEV-D-1000 folder is now on the C: drive.

OK I'l double check,

Interesting, it didn't download the game files but did copy them from my game drive to my O/S drive. :S

I didn't notice because they are both mirrored SSD partitions so the transfer was pretty damn quick.

Not good for those struggling for OS drive space.
