I'm stuck with the same problem, launcher says server is up and ok and that I need to upgrade the game but when I try to upgrade it just sits there and seems to be stuck, have tried to do both odyssey and horizons but neither seem to do any thing, I have to close the launcher through the task manager.
Same here, and that was for Horizons incidentally, it having an 'upgrade' I wonder if is due to what I saw on youtube galnet saying carriers don't move and fees have been doubled. Sure would have been nice to hear that from frontier, but then they said they were releasing a product and not a beta this week.

This is so ridiculous....... FRONTIER. JUST GIVE US THE DAMN STEAM PARTNER KEYS !!!!! So we could get updates via steam, Much better and faster than this sh*** ED Launcher ..... got the same problem. Cannot update, so cannot play. Why Frontier?!.......
Got the same issue myself. just tried excluding the launcher from my firewall/AV suite... - No Joy.... Got about 7k files and 6GB data.....

yes you can expect no indication on when to log off and back on in game too for certain things to work properly

Ctrl alt esc and performance tab, then keep an eye on your network stats.
As said above be patient it takes ages to start.
Disabling Virtual Cache in launcher options fixed the neverending updates issue for me several months ago.
Space on the install drive ? It happened to me..... derp.

Exempted the folder and the upgrade started IMMEDIATELY.

You can always just turn off protection temporarily, that might help. Turn off Real-Time protection, and it'll come back on by itself in a while.
But the Upgrade process can take quite a long time, and there is no progress bar or any indication it's working.

i updated with steam took a while but went on ok. i never update from main page thats a no no in my book takes forever.
