English is not a language famous for consistency between spelling and pronunciation.
True, but in English lave is pronounced lave the same as in slave

I pronounce it "Laahvey"...but then again, I pronounce the seventh planet from the Sun, "Ooraahnoose".
Since 1984... I have pronounced it Lave, as in rave. Man I am way too old to change my pronunciation now.

I remember when Voyager 2 was swooping past there in 1986 and the BBC insisted on pronouncing it as “Uh-ra-nuss” because we’ll have no giggling at the back there, boy!
There's a trophy on PS4 (probably Xbox as well) that mentions Lave. I'd imagine for the play on words it uses to work, Lave has the long 'a' pronunciation.
