Lave Radio and Radio Sidewinder

I really enjoy playing ED with either Lave or Sidewinder radio stations playing in the background, was just wondering if any of you other commanders use these whilst in game? I find with a radio station playing in the background, excellent audio from ED effects, and some neat VA backchat audio chatter the game is so immersive and never boring.

Listened to Lave Radio to keep me informed about development news and lore (they did an issue regarding the background of the factions) and because of the participants of the programme - they are mental and having a good time broadcasting :p

What we really need is in universe podcasts that can be downloaded to our ships at stations. I mean, I love that the community is so clever and creative, and I enjoy these web apps, but come on Frontier, is this something that the community should really have to do for you?

True, just a shame the music is so damned awful. Orbital FM is less switched in on the lore and the adverts, whilst amusing, get a bit repetitive after a while but they do play a lot of damned good music which suits, for me, the mood of ED. Either Space trucking or combat 1970s rock just fits. There again it might be because I am an old b* gger and youngsters might enjoy what sounds like the result of five chimps being let loose on a synthesiser (Peter Maxwell Davies makes money from his pretentious atonal rubbish after all).

Yup, I listen to both specifically because of the Elite lore, helps set the ambiance for the game, I love the news and funny commercials (Solar flare cologne :cool: ), and now I have another station to try out thanks to HurstLlama, (Orbital FM).

I'm definitely going to throw them some support via PayPal when I get the chance, well worth a few bucks!

Ah thanks for the heads up on that one - thats another station I can listen too whilst cruising the stars - cant wait to get my Rift headset next year.

I listen to sidewinder mostly.....lave is ok when doing a podcast or something....

but sidewinder is more immersive imo....robot Rachel reporting and all that jazz.

the most important things needed to play elite as it real as you can...

exactly what i do, great combination that helps a lot in enjoying the game.

tablets or smart phones and windows has a app called roccatt power grid...it basiclly is a macro shorcut program,but gives you star trek type displays.

i have made a cockpit witch houses 3 i phones and 2 8" tabs.....

2 screens for elite control functions like landing gear and deploy weapons ect(in a nice orange to match the hud)
my last i phone displays a full touchscreen keyboard so i dont have to have my main bulky one in front of me.....tablet 1 has thrudds trade tools on it....tab 2 has ed shipyard.

(i used to have a 3rd tab with a commanders log in matching colour scheme,wich i found on blackmarts android app store,but never used it)
i went nuts on this game lol.....in 30 years of gaming it is the most immersive thing i have had the pleasure of playing.....couldnt do it without all the toys though.

i even ripped apart a old xbox360 racing wheel setup....basiclly its just the pedals now with a usb cable......and when i use a program called joy2key i can map yaw to the pedals.

every part of my body has something to do when playing elite........and yes before anyone asks...my john thomas props it all up on my lap lol.

Interesting. I simply converted a second keyboard and made it into a dedicated control panel, propped up and elevated to the right height and angle, stripping away all unneeded keys, putting colorful stickers with icons for those actually used.

that is really really cool mate,i need to take some pics myself and post them on here.
you have given me a cool idea...i have a old keyboard under the stairs!....be nice to have another less "battery consuming" option.

tabs are cool,but after about 5 hours one or 2 start to die lol.


like the imagination moss....all about immersion and escaping to another world for me.
also real world onionhead certainly smoothes the process along lol.


also looking at your pics we have the same headtracking?...ps3 eye(modified) delan clip for HT? facetracknoir for the program?

Yep. Same headtracking setup, using voice attack... heck the reason I commented on your roccatt thing was because I realized we had everything identical but that - and I wanted to know what I was missing out on to see if I could incorporate it. ;)

But given my second keyboard fits the roccatt bill, there really isn't a need.

I had Voice Attack set up to type out messages in Comms to save me time for certain circumstances, but for some bizarre reason it messes with my head tracking every time I use it?
