Lavecon special announcements speculation....

.... Frontier have of course promised NO special announcements this weekend, but with a bunch of them joining us, we'll be pushing for any little titbits of info as usual.

So - current speculation and questions are:
Will Sandro have a new hat?
Will Michael be in costume again and challenging us to "bring it on"?
Mill Mike Evans explode when the next person tells him that acceleration is constant once you remove force from the equation?
Will SJA arrive in an AI driven car and be doing 60 up until the last 20 yards?

Will they be bringing an XBOne with them for us to see/test things?

If there are any burning, intelligent questions you'd like us to ask them that aren't going to offend everyone or end in rolling of eyes, feel free to put them here.

For my own part, I'll be hoping to have a chat about mission depth - missions taking us further away than 1 system and having multiple optional branches. Will also be seeing if I can ask about passengers as well as whether imperial/federal ranking will ever have any effect other than on buying ships.
We're hoping that they'll be able to see some of us in action and gain first hand views on how we play, what foibles we come across etc. In return, I'll probably be buying a few of them a beer and buying a few of their books....

(By the way, can we avoid "when is XXX going to be fixed" questions in this thread please - or anything that has already been answered with "soon" or "it's coming but no firm plans yet").

And finally - if you're interested, the event's on Sat and Sun and whilst the residential tickets are all gone, feel free to pop along to join a big crowd of like minded people. If you're already coming along - see you there!

Are there any plans to increase game immersion ? That's the question I'd love to hear them answer.

Radio comms, humans in stations, truly unique station depending on the faction, space superstructures like shown in concept arts, conflict zones objectives, more stellar events (gas clouds FTW !)...

I do wonder if they realize how many critical things they broke in V1.3 (?)
I fear that they still have no clue what they did...

If someone finds some immersion still floating around somewhere - let me know. Same with anything that still makes any sense. I sure don't see it anymore, no matter where I look...

I have to say, I'm not with you on the immersion thing - I'm still loving it every time I log in and I only see improvements as time goes on. Regarding the bugs - none of them seem to have hit me, so I can't comment. However - let's keep this positive and ask about "what's coming".

I think it would already help a lot of missions weren't automatically in the same or neighouring systems. Rarely does a delivery or courier mission send you to a place within the same system, but never more than basically a single jump away. I would like delivery, smuggling and courier missions to be able to send your across distances that could span all across the bubble, with correspondingly more time to fulfill them, and higher payments. On the other end of the spectrum, I would appreciate if combat missions of all kinds wouldn't always lead into other systems. It seems the factions never send you to clean out some pirates, for example, in their own system.

Hear hear. From Baltah'Sine to Eravate and back for some essential supplies - or a 5 stopper with mission updates each way. Taking plans from Federation to Alliance "under the radar" and managing to get there despite every bounty hunter worth their salt hunting you down. Having to find an NPC in an asteroid field, scoop something he dropped and then deliver it to station x (4 jumps away) - that sort of thing.

I know asking for specific stuff will hit a brick wall. SO:

"Will those of us who are worried at the apparent drift away from the DDA design be happy with what announcements are still to come this year?"

I still do not expect an answer that helps, however.

Well - last year, Mike gave us some interesting insights into the work on supercruise and supercruise targets, as well as the colourblind issues which are largely now mitigated and work on the flight model, so I'm sure there will be a few teasers to do with forthcoming things.

I actually can see his point re: immersion

Visually and interfacewise, the game is one of the most immersive around.

But in terms of the variation of environs, missions and immersed in being part of a vast living breathing galaxy, it still feels a bit wooden and disconnects from the immersion - imho.

Moving back to the thread - it would be great to hear something that addresses this announced at lavecon.

Of course they will tease few things here and there - for us to desperately speculate while they chukle their way to office next week :). Don't expect full reveals or official confirmations though.

- - - Updated - - -

I would ask now we have avatars in cockpit - what's next for them? Etc.

I'll try to be as short as possible. Feel free to edit questions so they might be more approachable:

-Will we ever be able to have naval progression similar to older Elites, or are devs satisfied with the way it currently is?

-A dev or two mentioned they might introduce values of modules in outfitting. For example, instead of "optimal mass 1560t", "heat efficiency C" or "stabilization rate B" we'd get actual effects and exact numbers where possible (for example shield strength 560 Mj, weapon power per hit 5 Mj or decimal numbers for items with ranges in multiple kilometers etc.). I haven't read anything new on that topic in the last couple of months. Is this still on the table?

-Do they have plans on diversifying mission types, introducing new ones (passengers, exploration, crew), adding more advanced scripting and instancing (assassination missions from old games, branching missions or basically anything more complex then "go to A, do B, return for cash")?

-Terraforming, service, tourism, military... Does anyone ever go to places with these economies? How many traders don't have Imperial Slaves or High Tech stations in their regular route? There are new minerals introduced in the game, but they are exclusive for miners. Is there any plan of rebalancing current economy types? How about adding new valuable goods to economies that lack them, or re-balancing the ones already available (like with narcotics)?

-A system might be surrounded by agricultural systems and have high demand for food, or it could be a billion population high tech system with no resources in 50ly but with medium or low demand for metals. Will economic simulation ever be able to look at the "big picture" or will it always remain in "every system is an island" mode?

-A minor faction cannot have more then one type of effect active no matter how many systems it has. 10 (now 15ly) mission range also limits its prospects. Are there any plans for a more robust system? Will combat/assassination missions always be targeted at nearby systems instead of their own (which is allot more logical)?

-Will we ever see the return of bobbleheads in Elite? Are there any plans for other such fun/cosmetic items?

-Any plans for automating Community Goals? Or connecting that module to already present background simulation module?

-After CQC, is there a chance for improving organized group play? I'm guessing most are allergic to the word "raid" especially after what WoW, its various clones and Korean grinder MMOs did with the expression, but how about more concrete stuff like assaulting outposts or stations or being allowed to destroy battleships?

-Powerplay mechanics is at the moment a grind of merits/money or interdictions. Are there any plans of leaving the comfort zone and moving to say skill or exploration based rewards?

-Any comment on future powers like for example what is required for one to appear, new mechanics etc? What about balancing current powers (Empire bias in benefits/modules and galnet coverage)?

-Any intention of connecting Powerplay with the background simulation module apart from 50% tresholds for favorable/unfaborable government types?

No need for any specifics, time tables or anything. Simple answers like "We're working on it" "It's on the table" "We haven't discussed it" would be sufficient.

Good questions....

I will add 'So, missiles then.....?'

I miss missiles. I miss oldskool ECM. I miss using missiles to make pirates break and run. I miss screaming and waggling my joystick for all it was worth and then seeing my shields and half my energy bank disappear. But.... that was the 80s.

So. Missiles?
