#LAVECON Summer 2013

Actually, the alcohol helped dampen the reaction compared to others. Normally I break out in a cold sweat and forget how to talk completely. I have hyperventilated before too, but thankfully AFTER the talk.

It helped more that the people out there in front of me were people that I kind of know.

I thought you were very good, if I had known your worst nightmare was public speaking I would not have asked you any question publicly, I would have just come and asked you n the bar...

It's not my worst nightmare, it's just that I have a particular physical reaction. I actually enjoy it (and I did enjoy the experience last weekend) and the questions are exciting to answer. Although I note that my answer to you was rather rambling and circular.

I needed to focus on the question a bit more, and it didn't help that in my head I felt that your question was rather similar to the previous one from Grant.

However, I hope that our subsequent conversation managed to clarify anything I muffed on stage. :)

Child. ;)

BTW, I work in the rail industry where the word "flange" is uttered on a regular basis. One of the concepts I have to write code for is, believe it or not, "flange wear".

I giggle a lot in meetings with Network Rail. :)

I am a structural engineer and I have to talk about steel erections a lot.

Sad to say it is about 10 years since I last found it funny. :)

(Edit: we also have stiff members)

Had a mammoth listening session last night, starting with the new Fiction Diary 4, then the last episode of Escape Velocity and re-living LAVECON.

Hearing Drew reading his piece again was really fun.

All the questions were audible John, you did a great job!

Re.. the Breakfast! Never knew about this. (Thanks to John Harper's podcast)

Cheeky hotal! I paid for my breakfast on the way out... so they double charged!

Voidsun - send me the bill, mate.

Cheers,

Drew.

What is annoying is I was sat there when you came out and I can't remember if you did or didn't.

No worries Drew, no need for reimbursement. :)
