We've had a few posts complaining that new players are complaining about things.....

I'd just like to remind everyone that they were all new here once, even old farts like me.

Please, have a bit of patience and I've copied a post I made a while ago.

Hi Everyone.

Just thought I'd make a quick post on how the forum is evolving as new backers of Elite Dangerous join us here for the release.

Please be patient to new forum members as they join and delve into the forum and the wonderful world of Elite, we all make mistakes and no-one like to be jumped on when this happens. The vast majority of the forum members are fantastic in helping new posters to join in and offer advice. There are couple of points I'd like to make:

  • If a new thread is created on a existing subject/in the wrong area etc. Take a little bit of time to direct them to the existing thread and by all means PM a mod and we will look into the thread, please dont make disparaging comments .

  • If someone creates a post that comes across in a negative manner. Don't respond in kind, instead show them there are better ways to make a point by responding in a positive and constructive manner. sarcastic replies discourages new forum members and will stifle debate and can easily descend into flamewars.

  • If a forum member is unsure of the forum rules or how to post on the forum etc. We have guides you can direct them to that can help them so they can join in and enjoy being part of the great community we are all helping to create.

The Frontier forum is a family orientated place, it may come as a shock to some but Elite is not the only series of games FD have created. ;) Some games are for the younger gamers i.e Kinectimal, who may be intrigued into what Elite is and will browse the main Elite Dangerous forum. We really want to encourage them to join in and become the next generation of Elite players to kick our collective bottoms with their faster reflexes and all that.

Always be mindful of this and post in a responsible manner.

We are all fans of the game and are all on a exciting journey together to help Frontier make the game the very best it can be. The forum is a place to express ideas and opinions have fun and revel in the madness creating a great game. Everyone has a right to be heard and as long as they contribute in the right way they should be allowed to have their voice heard.

Remember many of you were new forum members not so very long ago and the influx of new posters will continue for a while yet as the game progresses through the stages of testing until release and beyond... It can take a bit of time to get used to how Frontier likes the interaction of the forum to be conducted, so show them how to join in by leading by example.

Thanks everyone. :D

We've also had some great posts/threads offering to help others. (Great work guys.:D)

A reminder

To make this forum work please do not copy any items just blatantly but put the post up of the information and write up of it and then only put in the link

... I'd just like to remind everyone that they were all new here once, even old ***** like me...

TJ I am concerned that you have not read the forum post by yourself.

... The Frontier forum is a family orientated place, ...

Whilst we all perform human functions we should not be using such language outside of the little room :D

ps. to elucidate even the f word followed by 4 asterisks is not allowed by the forum censor.

Worth the discussion?

Hi all,

since joining the E:D community my friend and I have kept ourselves to ourselves mostly, rarely coming accross other cmdrs. However it came to my attention after speaking to someone in-game that a popular tradition has already established (as expected, i guess) where OP'ed players hang around noob central and wreak havoc amongst the sidewinders. I've also heard of the trend 'Eagle hunting' that is fast spreading.

Personally I feel that with enough interest it could provoke an interesting war between cmdrs, although it would be right on the beginner's doorstep. A cruel entrance to the galaxy for noobs, but it'd toughen up new players quickly to the cold, harsh realities of space. :p

Might it be worth adding a small safe space for players until they can at least find their feet in the game? Or should respectable players offer to fight off the cmdrs that desperately seek to ruin any newcomer's fun? With the game being added to Steam we can expect a massive increase in the community so... What are the thoughts on this?

Looking forward to hearing people's opinions :D
