Having been away from ED for months I was wondering if there was anything worth returning for yet? I have seen some of the newsletters about Thargoids returning etc but that doesnt look that exciting at the moment.
Well I have been playing American Truck Simulator a lot lately and you know what makes that game great - one thing is listening to the American radio as you play, really makes it immersive. I was wondering if that sort of thing would improve this game from being the grindfest it often is? What about having a radio you can listen to whilst you fly around? How would that work in this game - would you need a local station for each system? Would need local news, features and music. I doubt that would work but its worth thinking about. There must be something Frontier can do to improve the immersion.
Certainly there are other things Frontier could learn from in that ATS game though - what about cargo tugs or trailers where you are pulling a massive line of cargo behind you? Or attachments to you ship for cargo that makes your ship much larger and heavier - trying to land with that sort of thing could be really tricky.
And then theres the refuelling and rest period in ATS - why dont you have to rest in this game? Surely you cant go on indefinitely. And how could they make refuelling more interesting? Maybe making a fuel shortage or start refuelling a heck of a lot more difficult?
and then there is the scenery or lack of it in this game that makes driving around in ATS so interesting. How to improve the simple jump, jump, refuel, jump jump refuel slog? Surely there must be something they can do to make you have to visit some scenery to refuel - why no for example make star refuelling extrmely hazardous but gas giant refuelling much easier - then more people might travel deeper into the systems themselves.
There NEEDS to be more immersion in this game, more reason for visiting other areas than just constant jumps from star to star. More tricky landings and routine operations, more emergencies like fuel leaks or damage by micrometeorites than makes you abort your plans, need for rest and planning your route more carefully to refuel etc. IMO the whole game is far too easy and dull, there is no skill required to play. That needs to change. When a simple Truck Sim is far more immersive than this, supposedly the pinnacle of open world space simulation gaming, then there is something wrong somewhere.
