Learning how to pirate might help your income

While running into the station in Diso, I was interdicted. After seeing I was going to lose the interdiction fight, I submitted. There were 2 commander's on my radar; i.e. hollow blips. No communications, just silence from them. Seeing no communication, I boosted away and went into evasion mode. They scanned me and started firing. Hey, I'm not complaining here. They took my shields and did a bit of damage, but I got away. And even if they had destroyed me, I wouldn't have had a kick. This is Elite Dangerous after all.

I just wanted to give you guys a bit of advice. I would have dropped some cargo if you had asked. I would have even abandoned it so it wouldn't show as stolen. Hey, I know pirates have to make a living too. That's just part of the cost of doing business. But to just fire without any communications? Let's say you had destroyed me. What would you have gained? A bounty for murder and that's just about it. No cargo, no profit. It would also help if you would get a better aim as well. I actually am surprised I got away. 2 against a T7? And the T7 gets away?

And no, I don't know who you guys are. I was too busy running and hoping I didn't run out of luck:D

Its a story of two halves, a majority of people won't drop - especially as repairs got reduced so financially getting away on 1% is a great success, however traders who do drop at the easiest cash, have the potential to be abandoned instead of stolen cargo and can be scooped much faster so sometimes its worth the chat time.

On the opposite side you are on a time limit to pirate someone, some players will immediately log off if you don't put them in combat because your using dialogue, FSD recharge time has to spool up on people who don't submit, most won't answer and you lose the easiest time to hatch them.

So be understanding! In your circumstance it would have helped their income, but in another situation it would have lost them income, its all a choice.

They were most probably first time pirates they more than likely had no keys bound for dialogue and basically didn't really no wot they were doing

I understand what you are saying. But killing someone for cargo is not profitable. Now if FD made it where some of the cargo would drop on destruction, it would be, but the way it is now, all it gets you is a murder warrant on your record. Piracy needs some love. I say this even though I am a trader. We need pirates. Without bad guys, what fun is it? Actually, even though I was running for my virtual life, this was a ton of fun. Although probably not for the ones who wanted to pirate me. Nothing gets the blood pumping like being prey:D

Remember to hit the "Target hostile" key to see who they are. It also shows their distance, the mass-lock effect stops at 3km. F10 key is useful to save a screenshot so you can see the name afterwards.

Shadowplay (which comes with NVIDIA cards) or similar has a "save the last few minutes of video" key for a more complete analysis of the action.

Even if pirates don't have a text macro program (such as AutoHotkey (free) or Voice attack), they can use the simple method of keeping a text message in the Windows clipboard (from CTRL-C) and then pasting it into the Chat box (using CTRL-V) after interdiction. Over the past 2 days I've had 5 interdictions with no communication from different CMDRs in the Lave area. All eventually said something after persistent nagging.

You must be the golden exception to what I collectively call the "Marathon Traders".
They always run like they're in a marathon. Every. Single. Time.

I even message them BEFORE I interdict, to tell them what's about to happen and that if they submit to the scan everything will go smooth. I even tell them I won't take everything, because I believe that leaving a bit still encourages them to keep trading which keeps my enterprise in business.

But what happens every time?
They fight the interdiction, and they always lose.
Then I tell them again to stop their ship and no one gets hurt.
Well that doesn't work because the first thing they hit is the engine boost.

Sigh. Shields. Thrusters. Limpet. Scoop. Listen to strings of profanity about how I'm the scum of the game and ruin it for everyone and the game is and this isn't fair and blah blah blah.
Some even attack me. 6 autocannons silence that pretty quick.

I wish I ran into you, like every single time. Would be better for both of us. :)

i'd prefer when pirates would actually message one, getting some dialog going on, never had en pleasure" yet. would i drop of some cargo? absolutly, still better then getting your ship and goods blown up.

that said, if they a acting like a duchebag, i'd ram my ship down they throat (or well threaten with it.. while trying to turn around my lumpering transporter so see the pretty light beams slide my ship to pieces.

love when you stumple on some CMDRS with humor, like when im getting in to load off exploration data and meet an unlucky pirate. totally makes onces day :D

I view killing my prey as an investment in future cargo. If they refuse, well when they die, they might decide to cooperate next time. I've had that happen quite a few times. People who i pirated before will drop cargo because they don't want me to kill them again. That only works if you actually communicate tho. I doubt the people who stopped you were pirates, they might have just been trying to kill you.

Its like cobalt says further down, its an investment - if you get destroyed for not complying, you might in future, on the opposite side I never killed a trader who didn't launch a prolonged attack on me and had more and more people just try to escape, being able to kill thrusters helped with this but the compliance rate certainly dropped.

Do you still play Derath?

Compliance rate is weird for me, some days everyone complies and others noone does even after their drives are down.

I wasn't talking about not killing someone after they had failed to comply. If they don't comply to a demand to drop, they have to expect to be toast unless they get very, VERY lucky. I was killed by a pirate, who shall remain nameless, during an event. I would have dropped, but that made 2 piracy incidents in 2 runs for me and I just didn't want to drop. I know, I know. My own fault really, but I had the insurance and I wanted to make a point. Even though it cost me 600,000 credits. But I was making 1/3 of that each run. If they refuse to drop, blast 'em. And that includes me. If I refuse to drop, blast me. But these idi... uh, people, didn't even say anything. Why get a murder warrant on your record if you don't have to? If they had asked for cargo, I didn't comply and they made me a lovely light, this thread wouldn't even exist.

Was this two days ago? i was running with some Cobra newbies, and them as well as I have constant trouble cycling between wing chat and local chat, as the chat does not remember your last used chat. We often accidentally type "stop!" to each other. :p

Comply...? - Ha!
Good luck with that pirating villainous scourge.
;)

Oh and Pirates, when a Bounty Hunter interdicts and asks nicely, could you please just sit still and surrender.
