PvP Learning to Fly in PVP

Where there's a gold rush there's PVP. Decided to fly on over to 35 Leonis Minoris and attempt to provide some support for my friends while learning how to properly PVP. First time in actual full-on PVP combat against a variety of opponents; it ended up being a very good learning opportunity about my ship and my flight style... both of which need some work.

Some of the things I learned:
 • The Guardian Plasma Charger - while fun to use - doesn't do enough damage (normal and breach)
 • Guardian Powerplant: I might as well have put a star inside my ship. That thing runs HOT. Would have stood a better chance against the Cutter if I didn't turn myself into Fried Courier.
 • Gravity + Courier = :(
 • Packhounds are OP (well, not really... but...)

Apologies for the Discord chat in the background... I play Internet Spaceship Instructor to three of my friends :D

Also shout out to the Courier pilot (CMDR odyss3y) who I assisted during the Chieftain fight - o7

Will have a gander! A quick thing about pack hounds - they're definitely cheese vs a pure hull tank build. Your MRPs will be whittled down into nothingness and your screen will bounce and shake. Bit of a bummer being hit by them tbh.

That trade cutter definitely had balls fighting a Courier with shields as weak as his. If you hadn't been in a gravity well you probably could have smoked him instead of your own modules :p I can't believe how fast those pack hounds wrecked hull, I guess none of those guys had fitted any sort of hull reinforcement. The Viper MK III is a remarkably brittle little ship, the MK IV on the other hand is unreasonably strong... It was a good watch though, are you playing with VR or a head tracker?

I've been trying to find a replacement for them in the past week or so. They're good for shooting out external modules and thrusters, but bad for what I really need them for - dealing hull and internal module damage against a hardened target. I've been experimenting with pretty much every configuration that won't fry the Courier when fired (and I'd be using those Shock Cannons... but they're bugged at the moment which means it's hard to hit a specific module), but haven't settled on a specific loadout yet. I might try to see how long a lightweight Plasma Slug Railgun lasts on a C2 tank - a single Railgun with a special effect doesn't seem to fry me with prolonged firing.

Yeah the gravity + Guardian Powerplant messed me up (I'm just happy I didn't actually burn out my thrusters lol). Most of those other players appeared to be new to the game and were just following what the video, so were very unlikely to be in any shape for combat.

I am currently not using VR/Head Tracking, but I'm really tempted to figure out something for that end. I know I have a spare accelerometer lying around here somewhere...

Yup the difference between engineered and non-engineered ships is absolutely tragic, it's very off putting actually because it becomes impossible for anyone to judge the strength of a ship from just looking at it. The internals give you some idea, but not a very good one. I shot a vulture up in a cz the other night and his powerplant failed from two PAC volleys. Had the guy engineered his shields and hull, there's no way he would've gone down that quick. Pack hounds don't do much to internals yeah, but they break your guns extraordinarily fast. External modules fail at the drop of a hat for some reason, so the hounds are great for quickly removing someone's teeth.
