Great thread Cmdr Vin Delanos, I've picked up loads of tips for when I put together my mining Cobra (a III I think).

It took me a long time to adjust to the slightly more dangerous 2.1 environment. I had many scenarios with "If I had done A rather than B" moments. That's the fun of learning though, to play through something that went wrong in your mind and think about how you could have made it a positive outcome. Not had that for ages in ED, it was somewhat unexpected in 2.1.

Awesome, glad to hear it. If you have the option, you might want to try a MkIV out, too, since it has increased optional slots.

Limpets move at the same speed, appear to be slower to pick up because they are slower to pick up. Why? Because of the materials for engineers rocks give off now.

Yeah, good point. That's why upping my limpet count feels so much better. Even with two class 1 lasers, there is little wait time before I get to move on to the next rock.

What really annoys me is having to constantly dump mats in order to get my limpets going again.

BTW, learned a trick. If you're ever short on cargo space, and you need to reset some collector limpets, turn your controller off. It will kill the active limpets immediately.

If you are in the process of mining, you can fire multiple prospectors on the rock you are extracting on while your collectors continue their job.

still on the collectors speed, them maybe still got the same speed, but they do slow down before dropping the cargo on the scoop, on the asp the have to go directly below the ship and make a really slow approach before dropping the cargo and zip away to the next rock.
This can be really annoying, specially when you have 30+ rocks floating around, almost expiring...

A long time ago I watched a livestream wherein the guy mentioned ideal laser placement on spinning asteroids. I've found (and I think this came from him) that it helps to position yourself on the inside edge of the spin, so that you're left with plenty of space to reposition for pickup. I won't navigate around an an entire asteroid to do it, but if I'm close to the position, that's the one I take.

Right now I'm going to continue with the T-6, so with two class 1s I'm going to see how 3-4 limpets perform.

Here is something I think you will vastly appreciate to help you eliminate bottlenecks. https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteMiners/comments/3xyjbf/mining_lasers_weapons_capacitor_use_numbers/

Primarily mining should be able getting the most high value material and then secondarily material for missions. In this way you can maximize your return for the time spent doing it and make it more profitable than bounty hunting. The best way to do this is to reduce downtime. D2 lasers help accomplish this, then A rated power distributors, then collector limpets and finally enough A rated prospector limpets. Also helps to know where to mine at and what returns to expect for your time in the rings.
