Leaving ED for EVE

I just spent the greater part of 2 weeks fast tracking myself in Power Play for the Empire. Got to Level 4 just before the Thursday "pay day." Did I get anything? Yes, 500K, a 50% reduction in merits, and ZERO improvement in my Rank. What was I expecting for the 15mil in credits spent and trudging for 2 weeks back and forth with Marked Arms? I was expecting 5 mil and some rank improvement. At least this would have pacified me.

Since I "normally" earn about a half mil an hour playing ED, when I started the PP series, I spent about 15 mil in cr. But the time lost to PP missions was about 6 days of 6 hours per day. 36 hours I didn't make money trading. That's roughly 18 mil cr in losses with a net differential of 33 mil I SHOULD have in my bank account. Not to mention I was destroyed by "enemies" twice costing me 2 Asp Explorer's fully kitted at about 980K to replace and the 112 in cargo (twice), and fines. Roughly I should have about 36 mil and be well on my way to an Anaconda. Instead? Yup, only 4 mil to my name and in my Asp. Screw this.

I've been a fan of this game since I played the original in the 80's. My favorite game in my whole life of gaming experiences. Imagine my shock, surprise and glee when I finally played this game in VR (vs what it was like in 84 on the C64). I wanted to believe in this experience. I feel like the developers have robbed me of my time, robbed me of my credits, and robbed me of earnings I would have earned had I not decided to try out PowerPlay. For a guy that took off time from work to fully emerge himself in this VR game there is some reality loss too. Consider how much my time is worth, what I didn't get done around the house, the workouts I didn't engage in etc. All for nothing. Now I'm just hurt by it. This may very well be my last post, my last gaming experience with ED, my last attempt to regain my interest and confidence of this franchise.

I have not played EVE, but it's worth a shot considering the experience I just had with Elite D.

Spent 2 months exploring and had (guessing) 10s of millions in data when I flew into the flute of a neutron star (before you could see them) and died losing my data and very expensive ship. I was quite annoyed as you might expect, but wrote it off to the dangers of space and a lesson learned. If the grind and imbalance of some of ED's feature bother you then by all means play something else. Don't kid yourself that other large games like this don't have similar types of issues. Eve Online isn't even VR (as far as I know) and Valkyrie is just a shooting box (talk about a time waster). Much of exploring (my generally preferred play style) could be considered a waste of time, but when it get's old I change it up in ED play one of the many other games I also enjoy. I never consider this hobby a waste of time, but I am and always will be a gamer.
If you don't find ED enjoyable then you are wasting your time. "If Thine Eye Offend Thee"

Oh! and whining about your Ed displeasure in a forum of predominantly fans of the game, despite some imbalance and other issues--Waste Of Time imo.

As someone who has played EVE for a number of years, I can confirm that EVE is, frankly, a better game in every conceivable way. However, it's a completely different game, and they have a 12-year headstart. OF COURSE its better. ED has issues. Everyone knows this. BUT I have to tell you..

If your experience in ED hurt you THIS much..EVE will hand you your on a platter on DAY ONE.

You don't know pain and frustration until you're stuck in a collapsed wormhole, with no probes, because your prober got killed by a T3 cruiser, with a full head of implants worth hundreds of millions in ISK(eve's money), and a faction frigate. Imagine having to BLOW YOURSELF UP to get out, losing the implants, and the fancy- ship(faction-fit, I might add).

Or getted podded because you jumped into a gatecamp.

Or being smartbombed on a gate by a CAPITAL SHIP, just because they could.

Hey, look at me, undocking from Jita 4-4..oh darn, I'm in faction war I forgot no wait, don't shoot ahhhhhhhhhhhhh *boom

All these things, and so much more, have happened to me in EVE. And some, or most of them, will happen to you too. Happens to everyone at some point.

As we say, HTFU(harden the up).

Have fun in EVE. Remember, its just internet spaceships, dude. It's not that serious. also, if you haven't, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdfFnTt2UT0

Edit: sorry for swearing

What has this topic got to do with VR?

On topic please as per the forum section, or it'll be closed/moved.

And good luck playing EvE in VR, as Valkyrie doesn't really count (and is very shallow).

Guys: LOL, can we have your tearz?

Goons: Mmmm, fresh meat.

OP: Where is Solitaire in Windows 10?

Good point. It is easy to forget what section of the forum we're in. Perhaps you should have moved it before responding to the Eve comment. Then you wouldn't be off topic with us. Just teasing-lol

I agree with just about everything that Black Ops said re Eve Online. However, here and on eve, there are game play options and what you let your mind set be.

BO, ok sry ... Black Ops, I'd just built a Navy Drake and wanted to test it against the drones in a wormhole. Problem was with my impatient exuberance I lept into the WH with no probes. So when I was done kicking all form of NPC drone but, I warped back to the WH entrance I'd so dutifully bookmarked only to discover its nonexistence. (they collapse after "X" amount of mass traffic have pasted thru) I considered swallowing the bitter pill but instead, set up several safety bookmarks to run around to and waited. 4 days into it, I happened on a corp scout setting up corp WH sorties and whom was agreeable to giving me a WH entrance/exit into high security space WHICH ended up being only 5 jumps from my home base of operations.

The point in this little story was I chose to wait it out and see what time made of my predicament. I won because A) I learned to NEVER enter a WH w/o a probe launcher, depot, and numerous probes. B) I didn't go pop and lose a Navy Drake and all my lvl5 implants.

Same lessons to be learned here in ED. I've seen the puddles of tears from various cmds testing the waters of the various game play options and those not faring well for them. And I choose how to play based on this. So far so good.

And lastly, it's a game. Have fun with it and if it's not fun for you, put it down and go pick up something else. It just wasn't for you for whatever reason. Life is too short to be upset about it and if you've taken the time to post your frustrations, you let it get you upset.

Simple solution to this...do not PowerPlay ;)

PM me your account thank you. I keep these as Dog Tags for those who appreciate them.

I've heard some good things about Eve Valkyrie since the update. Didn't much care for the launch version but might take another look myself.

If this PP experience is what broke you down enough to come on the forums and give us this heart felt swan song, I agree you should go to eve. Hope you find what your looking for and stay.
