Left Stick / Thrust

I'm a PS4 gamer eagerly waiting for our launch date, and I've turned to the Xbox ED manual to familiarize myself with the controller scheme (assuming yours will be similar to my DS4). Can someone explain to me the effect of using the left stick to fire thrusters while flying with FA on? If I thrust left / right, will that basically "side-step" / strafe left/right like it would if I were playing FPS? I'm assuming it doesn't affect the ship's vector, since there are separate pitch / yaw controls.

How noticeable is the effect on the flight path when using thrusters? I usually like yaw to "fine tune" my aim as an enemy drifts left / right of me (or a docking slot, for that matter). If thrusters allow me to do the same thing, I would be very pleased.

Does anyone happen to know of a video on YouTube where a pilot goes out and narrates, "Now I'm moving the left stick on my Xbox controller" and the viewer can see for himself how that affects the ship in space? I would love to see this in action. Maybe some bored someone could post a quick "This is what the Xbox controller does" video, s'il vous plait?

We don't have enough control for FA Off. I use pitch/roll on the left stick, yaw/vertical thrusters on the right, and lateral thrusters on the triggers.
This is only a setup for fun though, it can't use weapons.
To use weapons you have to sacrifice one axis of control, and switch between normal and alternate controls to use all six (pitch, roll, yaw, thrust, lateral, vertical).
It's why we want a HOTAS flight stick so badly.

What about this "Yaw into roll" feature? Is that any good?

It takes some getting used to. The problem is with the deadzone and the activation can be a little extreme. I need to mess around with it alot more to see if I can really fine tune it.

I turned my yaw into roll off...I prefer the precision. On my left stick I have pitch up/down and spin (clockwise and anti-clockwise...I forget the proper name for it lol) on my left stick I have left and right for yaw and up and down is vertical thrusters. Then for landing I click on the left stick and my right stick changes from yaw to horizontal thrusters for precise manoeuvrability.

PS4 might work a bit differently as i think i read somewhere the tilt function on the controller is used for head look in game assuming FD allow full mapping options as they have done with the xbox controller you cold maybe remap your laterals to use that function

I use flight assist off extensively in combat on the Xbox.
My button stick setup is
left stick: vertical thrust and roll
right stick: pitch and yaw
I need the yaw control on right for fine tuning the aim.
Bumpers are:
right increase speed
left decrease speed,
tap both simultaneously set speed to 50% (blue zone)

Triggers are primary and secondary fire.

Lateral thrust would be useful but I would have to forego fire buttons (aint gonna happen)

To get thrust in a lateral trajectory I just roll 90 degrees and use vertical thrust to make the course adjustment.
TBH feel this is not so bad as it cuts down on the pilot workload, if you're
fumbling with controls in mid dogfight, you will loose control and get yourself killed quick (especially when using flight assist off)
But then since PS4 has flight stick many of you won't have this limitation.

Different setup for me.
Right stick pitch and roll.
Left stick yaw and up/down thrust
I find by using pitch combined with up down thrust you either tighten or open your turn.
