Horizons Legal salvage

SO, I'm 600ly out from the bubble and in a previously undiscovered system when I come across a "degraded emissions" signal. The data canister scans as "illegal cargo". Really? If there was a case for legal salvage, this is it. There needs to be a viable mechanism for legal salvage in such situations. Just sayin'

I think that being 600ly from the bubble, he was in uninhabited/unexplored space, how could it be illegal in an unregulated/lawless system?

Maybe because the game code doesn't account for this particular occurrence or, the canister "knows" it was stolen and transmits a signal saying as much. Who knows?

While a valid point, extra mass kills your jump range so don't pick anything up without realizing that.

If carrying cargo, you'll also be jumped by pirates when you come back and if you are in a stripped down Asp that may be a problem for you.

I agree I'd like to be able to salvage cargo from kills you make legally bounty hunting and maybe get a % of its value as reward from insurers for returning stolen property

Yeah. Also USS combat aftermath and stuff dropped in RES

Buying salvaging rights from local factions would be an interesting feature too (maybe you will be lucky... or not).

And If you can harvest processed materials from shattered hulls with mining lasers, that would enable a new line of business (an alternative to mining).
