I remember the dredger. Everytime I played I wondered if today was finally going to be the day I found one. Of course confirming my suspicions I read years later there never were any. But the point is the thought all this mysterious stuff might be out there captured the imagination and helped make it the great game it was.

I hope they'll do something for this game. There's certainly enough room to hide rare events and other stuff. So finally if you created an Elite legend what would it be?

The legends are useful. Help at the curiosity / hope of the gamer, and at the durability of the game and to maintain the mysteries

Absolutely, any game benefits from stuff like this. The huge size of the universe should make it relatively easy (?) to implement one or two McGuffin's in the far reaches - Generation Ships or a Thargoid base maybe?

Makes me wonder.... with such advancements in technology and a new playerbase, development... maybe some of those rumors will find truth when we are able to explore the vastness of the galaxy.

As far as not breaking copyright you could pack just about everything into so many star systems

- a Ring World (Larry Niven)
- Eewoks (no, not really)
- Dyson Sphere (not copyrighted!)
- The Spike (Peter F Hamilton: Void series)
- Restaurant at the end of the universe and the Big Bang Breakfast Bar
- Firstborn
- Star sized diamonds whose existence is likely given the current theories of star life cycles.
- Stars that could go supernova
- Wormholes that lead who knows where
- Dredgers (I never saw one either)

I really like the idea of Supernovas, now i come to think of it.

I cant remember the exact statistics, but is there not a supernova in our galaxy every couple of days or something? That would be awesome to see in-game. Especially if you were caught in the middle of it!!!!!!
