I like hull reinforcement.
But I have discovered on a heavy ship where you need maneuverability, there are diminishing returns when stacking in as large hull reinforcement modules as you can. I went with a bunch of 3D's in my Python and B6 shields and 2x B6 SCBs. I was happy with the durability, and maneuverability was better than with a maximum armor build. I made this super-nerdy chart to illustrate. I have not included resistances yet. Notice the steep curve in mass gain beginning with the size 4 armor. (armor rating numbers are reduced 10x to make the chart easier to read)
