Less suicidal collector limpets

Nothing major in terms of limpet navigation, I just want limpets that do a basic "is there and object between me and my destination" check before slamming into asteroids. If the target is obscured, the limpet just stays in place (or follows your ship, if that's where it is).

It's super annoying to drop 10 limpets in preparation of mining an asteroid, only to have them all instagib themselves against a random rock behind you in a desperate rush to pick of a useless bit of space junk from a dead Eagle on the outer fringe of their range.

Not a bad idea but a little practice you should not have that happen.

It always funny to see limpets do stupid things it give miners something to do.

Wanna know how I know you don't mine much in the hot zone of RES's?
Well you need to Learn to mine. I started playing Elite Dangerous in December of 2014, Elite Classic in 1984. When we had NO Prospectors or collectors.

Before luxury of Prospectors or collectors on Elite Dangerous. We had to study the Asteroid rotation as a skilled miner you can locate a area of a asteroid so when you mine the ores come back in the direction of the ship for easy mining. Instead of complaining about the ores hitting side of a asteroid while it rotation.

Here how I do it now. I launch a prospector. Watch the Asteroid rotate and prospector so I can locate a area you do not lose Collectors then mine.

If you are losing mass amount of collectors then you are doing something wrong.

Wow, you didn't even try to comprehend my original post, did you?

Some people can only see one way of playing the game. RES mining indeed has completely different problems, the mining only being a small set of them.

A filter on just legal goods would be enough for the specific problem, though it (or a fragments only filter) wouldn't stop your limpets from poaching fragments that other miners have drilled.

I don't know why someone would mine in the center of a RES site. It a easy way to die. . You enter the res site and fly out to 15km and 20km zone from the center Res site the area there little or no NPC and you get the bonus. You can hit hazardous with out dying unless you log off and log on and your full of cargo.

I don't want to derail this anymore, but I think RES mining is some of the best fun in the game, and is sadly very overlooked, so I'm just going to clarify one point and call it done here:

The RES-bonus rewards seem to start to taper off around 6km or so out from the center of the RES. I've tried it rather extensively both ways.

Anecdotal example: I got 29 tons of Painite off a single asteroid last night in a Haz-RES, 3km from the center (in a non-pristine ring, even). Finds like that are not that uncommon, across multiple Haz-RESes I've mined in.

If you can remember just where in the RES that painite roid was, next time you go back to that same RES the 29% painite roid will be waiting - refreshed after 2 hours.
