Less than 24 hours to deliver supplies to Yembo, will the community make it?

Less than 24 hours for Yembo and the meter is not even close. Can we do it?

I am a contributor and i'm pouring a lot of time that I possibly can into trading metals for Yembo's Ocellus starport construction. The meter bar is not even half close to having it fully finished, and there's only 15 hours left (the time left when I posted this thread) for everyone to deliver resources. Are we going to make it in time? What will happen if the time runs out? Please post on the poll and/or reply what you think.

EDIT: So time has ran out. No Ocellus station nearby.

There's no way. The jump from Tier 7 to 8 is the same amount of progress as 1-7. There are barely any contributors, and those that did just did 1 run to get the bonus and left once they saw every "economy" around them sucked dry. The "rewards" are meager. So many reasons to not even bother with it.

Let's hope FD can balance it for the future. This was the real beta test anyway.

I don't think reaching Tier 8 is required. That said, there is no way it will happen. Too many people with huge cargo holds found the task to be beneath them (at least according to some of the threads I saw on this forum!)

The starport will get built, if that's what you're asking. We only needed to get past T1 (Global Reward: Success) for that.

In the future, these trading CGs need to be better designed. The rewards are inadequate, and the profitability declined rapidly. Stations that host these CGs either need infinite supply for a profitable outgoing run, or sell prices for the desired goods need to be 3k+ above galactic average.

my thoughts are tier 1 will be a basic outpost
tier 7 will be a fully built most advanced station in the game.

Somewhere in between will obviously be one of the other levels of station upgrades.
Thats the way i see it , we have successfully completed a basic outpost at 1, perhaps a industrial outpost at 2, military science outpost at 3, one of those wierd long stations at 4, coralis station at 5 etc etc

So the station will be built, the question is what comes next with colony - outpost tpe expansion

Why would I even bother with this community goal? IT's not interesting and there's no reward. FD have no imagination and just like to keep nerfing everything into the ground.
I fully agree with you on this why would anyone bother? No reward for too much hard work! Pointless excercise.

I visited once, saw the rewards and thought "nah, I don't think so" and went off to do my 300k 6minute run elsewhere.

IMO, community goals = more pointless fluff

I also think one of the biggest balancing issues FD have is with trade prices because those that have huge cargo holds can make massive profits easily in a few runs, but those with smaller trade ships and smaller cargo space can't do that without making multiple runs, so how do you balance that.
How do you make profits balanced so low end players can make enough money to progress to the more expensive ships but stop those that are in the most expensive ships from making stupid amounts of money?

It's a global price market so everyone gets the same profit per ton.

IMO, most of those that are in anacondas and such have got there so fast by using the luxuries exploit in gamma and early release. Its much harder to make that kind of money now with the trade sim being as it is.

My next ship is a type 7, and I need 17 million credits to get it in a asp with 116 cargo space!!!!!

MAJOR GRIND INCOMING!

Agreed. I saw your "Lazy CMDR" poll choice and thought it was harsh. It has nothing to do with being lazy and everything to do with incentive. Plus people are flung far and wide in a 400 billion star system sandbox, distance is a big deal and making the effort for little reward doesn't really add value to the player experience. Maybe the poll should have had the option of "Community Goals don't interest me" instead ? Im only 70ly away but was busy aiming for my own goal at this point so timing is another factor. The next one I might take part in.

I went over there two days ago. Did three trade runs and took about 640 tons of metals, then I went back to my usual trade route. The profits I was making at Yembo was about 1/3 of what I would normally make, with the added inconvenience of short supply in the nearest systems.

To be fair, it's a first run of this sort of thing, but I do hope that they learn from this and put in some real incentives next time. If the game says that they are paying "premium" prices for metals, then that's what should happen - not the miserly sums the station is paying.

I think this hits the nail on the head. The first run of Community Goals has been a trade related activity, and right now we've been spoilt by running our own trade routes for maximum profit margin. When we come across this kind of goal our immediate reaction is to compare with what we've been used to and then walk away because we're not making the same money, so the incentive isn't strong enough or is pitched in the wrong way. Sometimes money isn't the only motivator. Ranking for example could be another incentive with a particular faction. Or a special outfitting item that's only available to those who contributed within particular levels. I'd be interested in hearing how many people tried it and then left to go back to their usual activity. This could be a good indicator for setting up CGs in the future that's appealing for those who do that particular activity as a staple diet in Elite.

Though those big cargo ships should be encouraged to spread out and support the expansion on the fringe, new solar systems new markets. System upgrades sure its grind but give it meaning

Im pretty staggered with the lack of thought in this, from the poor incentives to the building, sorry, magical appearance, of the station. Why on earth did they not stack trade routes? A lot of traders seem to favour a small number of jump and low SC, why the hell didn;t they simply stack the required goods a few jumps out and allow station to station resupply, so that some commanders would take goods from station C to station B then others would pick up B and take to A? C/B could be further out, favour those with bigger jump ranges. I suppose that it would need 'trade' to actually work which is somewhat of an unknown still.

I dont know but the recent (very) small attempts at adding some content 'events' seem to have a very short life span and do not seem to be very engaging, or, ultimately actually happen in the galaxy. Help us FD, you're our last hope, oh wait, you might not be!

I assume the new station will just magically appear on server restart (If I am wrong then I do most humbly appologise)

not the miserly sums the station is paying.

To be fair the station is actually paying excellent rates. The problem is that normal market forces have continued to apply in the surrounding systems so the prices there have risen to the point where there's very little profit. Also Yembo rapidly ran out of anything that could be sold to the supplying systems wanted so it became a one way trade.

Perhaps they should have tweaked the local economy to ensure that the supplying stations kept their prices low and also increased the supply of things like Progenitor Cells at Yembo so that you could make a bit of money on both legs.

Community spirit is all very well but Yembo is not my home. Why should I care about the success of their project if there's no profit in it for me? I'll probably never go back there so a discount of fuel (which I can scoop from the nearest star for free) is utterly meaningless to me.

If there aren't going to be profits there need to be more desirable rewards for success such as the unique skins proposed by someone in another thread.

I get the feeling that there's too many commanders who might consider it, but don't see it as profitable enough...

I.E. most serious traders can easily find a route that is netting > 1000 cr / ton each way. However I was averaging between 500 cr and 600 cr one way when I was running stuff to Yembo.

If Yembo really wants to expand, then it's gonna have to pay for it, simple as....

Eid

I did alright getting 1500cr / ton of gold into Yembo. On the way out I picked up Agri-medicines to get 300 cr / ton to Valda and then Animal Meat for another 300 cr / ton to where I was getting the gold. It's not great and I could get more elsewhere but it was an ok run all things considered.

If they have no imagination why are you playing a game they designed...with their imaginations?

You have to agree that it does not take a rocket scientist to engage their imagination to such an extent so as to make these community-related tasks just that little bit more interesting, yes?

I mean a tweak there, an incentive here and a healthy profit-margin and I'll happily travel the 250 light years in my T-9 and assist. However, as it stands now and with the T-9's useless jump range I get a spasm in a shady spot even contemplating the journey, never mind the high risk vs no-reward grind when I finally get there.

Good idea, less than adequate execution at present. We can hope that the concept is a W.I.P. If not I'll have to get pills for that pain that affects my shady spot.......

i thought it was ok... have been getting 500k out and up to 1500k back on a 31 ly run with my asp. shame it didnt reach higher tiers as rewards would be greater. and i assume i can buy back my high end gear with 5% discount..
