General / Off-Topic Lest We Forget

Tomorrow, here in NZ and Australia, we celebrate Anzac Day.

I'm an Aussie living in NZ and Anzac day is a very special day, to remember those who fought for our freedom.
Like a lot of people in both countries, I have a relative who died during World War 2.
He was a gunner aboard an RAF Lancaster that was shot down over Germany less than 6 months before the war ended.

Rather than lament what might have been for him, I thought about the latest multicrew update for Elite which allows gunners aboard other people's ships and what I might do to honour his memory.

Apart from getting up for the dawn service, I'll no doubt play a couple of games of two-up, drink too much beer, I'll fly my Cobra with it's Aussie paint job.
I also just might go looking for a gunner role in someone's Anaconda.

p.s an Anzac themed paintjob would not go astray this time of year either...hint/hint FD

Anzac day. Yes very important for those colony troops to be remembered.

Siege of Tobruk etc.

But Frontier being an international organisation. You prob wont get your wishes about paint jobs etc.

Maybe a paint pack to remember the early 20th century, with 6 options. RAF brown/green cammo and roundals. Luftwaffe green/grey cammo with cross's. USAF silver with markings, Japan, Russia and France options too.

But then you would get other nations asking for them to be included. Italy, Scandinavian, Turkey etc.

Then you gota pick a ship for them. Asp, Cobra, Eagle?

Puts a few bugs, and a week's wait for a point update, into some perspective don't it..

Spent a day around the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey some years back, pretty intense place and though I'm a Pom and the OP obviously an Aussie .. wouldn't want to be without you Digger.

(No really!) :D o7

What would an Anzac themed paintjob look like? If it's a Poppy it could be used for Nov 11th in the UK too (Armistice Day).

^ kind of what I was thinking...yeah.

To expand on that idea a little, since many countries around the world both use the poppy as a symbol of remembrance for those fallen in war and have dates associated with it, how about if FD were to make a poppy decal, make it available for purchase on a "pay what you want" basis from the store a couple of weeks either side of the appropriate dates with each period of availability supporting the appropriate veterans charity...

I'd buy one. Heck, I'd probably buy it several times over each year....

They could take a step up and hire a veteran to create the design. :)

I think this idea would work well!
Thanks for the suggestion.

+1 from me, OP. However, Frontier would/may need to be careful about encroaching upon the use of the term 'ANZAC' as it's protected and can only be used with appropriate permission (Dept of Veteran's Affairs I think but I could be wrong there). An ANZAC themed paintjob (or flightsuit?) would be great though - but perhaps something more generically aligned to Rememberance Day/Veterans Day might have wider appeal. I'm sure the idea of rememberance of the fallen of all wars is not something that would have faded by the time period in which the game is set.
