Let commanders run for President!

The Galnet entry for 27 Feb 3309 details the launch of Zachary Rackham's campaign for election to the presidency of the Terran Federation.

Let me be the first to congratulate Mr Rackham on his choice to exercise his democratic rights to compete for the highest office in the Federation!

However, why are members of the Pilot's Federation, including one Cmdr Maur (born Siegfried Maur, Williamstown, Australia, Earth, Sol System on 29 Feb 3246) not able to run for President? Why are commanders doomed to mere supporting roles in the drama of galactic politics?

Certainly, Mr Rackham is a trillionaire entrepreneur, but what makes his credits any better than those of the billionaires and trillionaires of the Pilot's Federation? Are we not influential entrepreneurs with a stake in galactic politics?

So, let me open this petition to end the sidelining of Pilot's Federation Commanders, and let us, too, run for democratic offices!

All those in favour of this petition, please cast your vote upon this post in the customary manner.

Now, to drop the roleplaying a bit, why can't players with enough credits and support from other players - and the skills of world-building and writing - run for President? FDev could openly set any reasonable criteria to run and win, and the candidates could generate Galnet articles in their own name, speaking on matters of galactic importance, and perhaps influence the course of the story unfolding around the Federation.

It would make all players feel more connected to the galaxy that FDev has created for our enjoyment to see that any player could aspire to contribute to the evolving lore.

I speak not only for myself, but any other player who might be interested in having an inside view of this game's story and influencing it in some small way.

5th column galore!

Feels like this suggestion was too bad for the suggestion forum and that's why it's here. 😝

We can play with the pieces Frontier give us, not insert our own that probably screw with things due to our out-of-universe perspective.

More importantly, I don't want to end up like Halsey.

Promise to wear a red shirt during your acceptance ceremony.

Amusingly, it's never actually established by the game whether the player's CMDR is a Federation citizen or not, which I assume is the qualifier for being able to vote/run in the Presidential elections. Maybe that's why you can't vote, heh.

I'm guessing that one's citizenship status is entirely matter of roleplay. I've always found it interesting how much scope there is for role-playing in a game which isn't actually an RPG to begin with.

It does not seem very practical if you can't even visit planets with atmosphere, where the majority of cities and population exist.

Remember when you were given the honorary title of King and Admiral? No ceremony, no party, nothing. Just a text message on your systems comms. Classy.

I'd be happy enough if I could spend a couple billion credits to start an outpost/starport building project, there are many systems in which a new starport could have tremendous benefits. This is how much Rackham's Peak cost for Rackham, and that was so far out of the bubble that the shipping costs for the materials were probably not cheap.

...and players will click away at the Corilis station, revealing new exciting layers, and can spend Arx to remove several blocks in one go, until finally, there is only one block left, and the player who removes that will get something only we can offer. /Molybrabeaux

Easily done. All visits to ELW's where the seat of power is located are done via APEX shuttle, only landing via a cut scene and it's pretty closed off much like a stronghold in Skyrim was (except the doors don't open - only way in our out is the APEX shuttle).

I think I'd prefer to be Emperor. Nice and relaxing, apparently you can do that job even while held in cryogenic suspension.
The negative side is that as Emperor there are plenty of people that would seek to put you in cryogenic suspension whether you wanted to or not.
And sometimes ensure there's a leak in the hose that proves fatal in about 3 or 4 days.

No thanks, i can see yet another load of self promoting influencers getting folks to mash the like button and end up running a faction, what could possibly go wrong.
PMFs are bad enough, just look at half the self entitled screaming on here when their systems get invaded.

I was actually planning on doing a post about this myself :D
But you better believe I'll be running if its possible.
