As an alternative to the Docking Computer, let the NPC crew that you can hire for multi-seat ships, be able to dock your ship.
They can clearly fly your ship anyway, when you are in a SLF they even perform combat for you, so docking should logically be fairly simple for them.
I don't see any balance issues, as newbies won't be able to fire a NPC crew member until they at least upgrade to an Adder or Cobra MK3, and they cost far more than a DC (and take percentage earnings too).
This is hopefully a light development request, as you can use the same code as the DC, so need somewhere on the GUI to give them this order, and obviously test it all. May need some adjustments (remove) station voices around auto-docking.
I don't think people would care if the NPC docks from (assumed) duplicate controls in the cupboard where they live, and not from the cockpit.
This would be an option, and not mandatory, so players can ignore the feature as per their preference.
