Let make Elite Dangerous great again! (Few suggestions)

Hi there Commanders and FDevs.
Recently I was talking with my friend about Elite and what this game is missing or what should be changed to make it better and more enjoyable for people to play.
I would like to share those thoughts with you guys and hopefully some (all?) of those can be adapted to the game itself.

1. We should have specialized ships. Yes I know that you can make every or most of the ships specialize in one thing or another, but there should be specialize ships for different activities. Those ships should have permanent modules for their speciality. You could not change those for anything else. Like for example ships specialize for exploration should have permanent scanners modules and higher then standard FSD module. Mining versions should have permanent modules for mining. Bounty Hunting ships should have upgraded and as well permanent shields and weapons for that job. And so on, and so on. You know what I mean I hope. Off course those modules have to be much better then those we have in game. Even better then grade 5 engineering. You change something for something. You have better modules specialized for one type of job, but you can't touch them or change them. And when you buy a ship in shipyard you should be able to choose those specialized builds beside standard version.

2. There should be a short story mode for new players to teach them how to play. This game is very complicated for new players. Yes I know that you have trening missions but those are not so good (but much better then the first ones). For example when new player starts the game he/she can have voice acted missions and guidelines like in most single player games. Those will be played automatically in solo mode and will guide this new pilot over all the basics including flying she ship, starport services use, basic combat, galaxy map usage and maybe engineering and power play basics? I would also suggest that when new pilot it taking new type of mission for the first time, that they will also have voice acted guide to explain how to do this mission.

3. Trade between the players. There should be a possibility of trade between the players. There are many players that specialize in something, like mining, combat, engineering, exploration etc. From those activities you can get something that other players need (like engineers materials, guardian materials, combat bonds, rare commodities etc) and those could be traded for in game currency. Market balance would be quite easy to set up. It's basic demand ratio (the more people need something the higher buy/sell price will be and opposite). At this moment I'm not sure what is better... If it's better that market always have those goods and only the price change or the market only have so much as much other commanders sell. That decision I leave to you FDev.

P.S. I see that there is a confusion how this should work. I DON'T mean that there should be direct player to player trade for in game money, because this could be easily abused and maybe even someone would start selling materials on auction services for real money. NO! This is not what I mean. The idea is that one player sell something to THE MARKET and get's credit rewards for that. Another player who is interesting in buying something will do it FROM THE MARKET with in game currency. Seller don't decide who he sell and buyer don't decide from who he buy. It's all MARKET storage. This is a protection from abuse, because if you have no credits, then you can't afford to buy anything. So this way everyone will still need to do missions to earn some money if they want to buy stuff and there will be no abuse or Pay2Win thing. Materials price will be set by FDevs and depend on demand. If more people would sell then buy - the price will go down. If more people will buy then sell - the price will go up. Players WILL NOT SET their own price (again abuse possible). This is just alternate solution for players who hate the grind or waste days for materials collection, but enjoy the game and doing missions. Because as for now there is nothing to spend those hard earned credits for. This would be a great idea for that.

4. Arena or CQC as you prefer should be a part of the game itself. You know why most people don't care about this game? Because it have no actual meaning in the game itself. What I suggest is to make in game locations where players can gather and fight with other pilots (like conflict zones). When players go there their nicknames are registered on board and new fight starts like every 15 or 30 minutes. Those kills should be registered under their Codex stats as Arena kills. Every month there will be one winner. The best pilot and this pilot will win a prize either in game buffed module store reward. Those kills should be reset every month and every month new commander could win. Those statistics should be available over GalNET. If technologically possible LIVE transmission should be available at GalNET as well, so other commanders could watch it. Something like LIVE sport transmission.

5. People who registered their own PMF's or are Squadron leaders should have the possibility to create their own missions for other players. Off course those should be somehow balanced with rewards and requirements. You could set a panel in the game itself (something like squadron panel would be nice) where players can choose type of the mission, location, can add additional things like enemies to kill, location changes, scans etc. With every new addition the reward will get higher. I am sure that this can be semi automated or automated. You can just add percentage jump or CR jump to every additional thing to do. It would be very nice if we could create missions for other players to ask them to do something. I have no really idea how it should look from the technological point of view, but I'm sure that you could figure it out.

6. Storage. There should be storage at the station for everything. We have currently storage for our modules, but why not for commodities or engineer/guardian materials? To not overuse this option I would suggest a daily payment with in game currency for this storage. The more you keep the more you pay. this would be also very much useful while changing ships. Sometimes you have stuff in cargo and while it is transferred to new ship with sufficient cargo, you can't change ship with less or no cargo space. This way you could just transfer your cargo to the storage and change ship in easy way. Also sometimes you collect commodities or materials for engineers to unlock them or for tech brokers to unlock them, but commodities are lost when you die. Why fly with them if you could just store them on station?

7. Extra ammo. You know that we have this module called cargo? Elite is trying to be simulation of live in space. Then why can't we have extra ammo stored in our cargo? That should be a possibility! When we are going to conflict zone or bounty hunting with kinetic weapons our ammo is used pretty fast. We have this cargo for something. Why not give us the possibility to buy extra ammunition same way as we buy limpets and store them in our cargo space? This cargo will be used to automatically reload our weapons when main magazine is empty. It's 1T of cargo, so I think when reloaded the ammo count should be slightly increased. For example 10K ammo in standard. When have 1T of extra ammo this should be increased like 10x ? This off course depends on the ammo and weapon size. Bigger hard points use bigger ammo in side, so this count should be balanced.

8. Squadron limitation. No I'm not going to talk here about limitation to 500 members even I think this should be much higher. I'm talking about limitation that You can join or own one squadron at the time and that's it. Off course I'm all hands in with one player = one squadron owner, but why we can't be a member or other squadrons? We as players are often members or various communities or player groups. Why this can't be represented in game? For example I can own one squadron only and this limit is fine, but I want also be a member of few other squadrons. Why this is a problem? Could you change this FDevs?

9. Last but not least. We should have yearly meetups with the community in real world. This Frontier Expo thing was a GREAT idea and this should be happening every year. It would be nice to meet other commanders, meet the developers, talk about future of the game, play some games together like this ED RPG or this card games (forgot the name). It would be nice to have fun together. Also my idea is to have this meeting before season end (November? December?) or Summer. Hopefully this could also include next season reveals.

So that's what we were thinking off what could drastically increase the joy of playing Elite.
And what do you think about it? Do you have any ideas of your own?
Cheers.

P.S. And yeah... Power Play should be OPEN ONLY.

I'd postulate for probably everything mentioned above other than trade between players (unless it really makes sense, but it would mean reworking entire economy). And my suggestion would be to make a realtime Galnet radio, in which players would learn about what's currently going on and where.

There would be at least 2 channels: global and local. Global channel would inform about the Universe-wide events, like newest Community Goals and their states, story elements like Thargoid attacks or Guardian discoveries, new technologies, game content additions, new ships, weapons, interesting phenomena, exploration discoveries by other players (or you, you could be the hero the Galaxy is talking about) and similar topics. Local channels would be system-specific, but the information gathered would encompass a few nearby systems, up to some distance, just from the perspective of the system you're currently in. Those channels would inform about what's going on in the system you're visitting. That would mean the political situation with organisations at stations, disasters like famine, war, but also elections, trading information - which commodity is needed where, where you can find good prices for particular cargo that's overflowing. Also, local stations would have a chance to inform about the most dangerous players entering or flying currently in the system, or where they were last seen and what bounty you could earn for hunting down those outlaws. This would really help with the crime and punishment system, massively improving immersion and putting a bigger risk on griefers.

Additionally, it would be great to be able to create and take part in player-made missions. Including bounty hunts on wanted players (only outlaw players), but also escorts and whatever Fdev would come up with.

I believe all of this would greatly improve the overall immersion of Elite and make the community active, engaged and satisfied, giving the devs more time for careful content creation.

Make solo available for modders (steam workshop) and offline only or separate save game. This would free server resources for multiplayer without instancing. Open online only with trading between players and real multiplayer, because this game is freak of nature now. Connect CQC to base game and make missions for it - like for example new CG "galactic championships", will be more fun and not only grind.

1. If these fitted modules would be better than G5 engineered, why should we bother with engineering our ships? Why should we have those specialised ships that does a better job? This sounds like a lazy way to avoid engineering.

2. I agree, and what you describe is the tutorials made available as ingame missions. I would also suggest that rework ranking up in the Federation and Empire to be story missions. Put all those permits to use, let some mission start by putting you a loaner ship, ie one of those ships you later unlocks, so you educated on these ships as well.

3. Trading, using a market fixes most of the abusable issues with player to player trading. But this will again, bring back the focus on making LOTS of credits as fast as possible, as you have already noted, without credits you can buy from the market... And we know that FDev did some incredible swift quick nerfs to earning credit in the past, and now that credits for most player is not that hard to come by, even by just playing the game, this is not a real problem if there is some hotspot for easy credits. as these tasks tend to be so boring that just playing the game is most of the time a better option, but if you want those 2 billion to buy that fully G5 kitted Cutter, then 10-20 hours of hard credits grind is doable a you know have a goal... also those that spent lots of time in the past to grind billions upon billions credits in the past hotspots, can now buy everything from the market... creating a new unbalance.
So I fail to see the real meaning for this kind of function. IF you care to grind credits doing boring stuff, then what is the difference to grind material doing boring stuff? After they added the material brokers, you can now trade surplus material to material you are low on. Also the fixed amount of material per type instead of a fixed amount for everything, also made it simpler for players, as they could pick up that material until it that particular box is full and then use the material trader to make new room...

4. Sounds like a good idea.

5. Interesting idea, but what would this accomplish in the end? I think it would be to make suggestions to improve the mission generator. As I would otherwise expect this lead to abuse, as we already know that the current mission system can be abused.

6. What use would there be to storing engineering/guardian material? If you have excess material, you can use the material traders, and you have already made a suggestion in 3 to sell this stuff on a market. Cargo
The commodities that you need to unlock stuff with, the engineering commodities already allows to partial delivery, I see not problem that we do the same to tech brokers.
Swapping ships with a full cargo hold. this is tricky problem. Limpets should stay on the ships. Commodities are a bit more tricky.
Mission commodities could get an option to unload at the current station for storage, for a fee of course. This should allow you to take a loaded Type9 to closest station, and here unload the mission cargo and then change to a python or similar to deliver to the outpost, potential saving you a multiple long range trips in the Python.
Other Commodities, now there should be very few reasons to store these...

7. Sounds reasonably, but I would add that to reload the weapon from the cargo, there must be some catch, like you have to retract the weapon and it will take some time, small weapons do this faster, and huge slower. So this is not a quick fix to make the engineering mods like "High Capacity" obsolete. So in a conflict zone this is done strategically. When doing bounty/pirate hunting, this is obviously done between pirates.

8. I have been seen both variants, "one player - one guild" and one player - multiple guilds", and there is no solution that fits all, and it all comes down to what the "guilds" are used for. But multiple Guild memberships biggest drawback is the who is you loyal to, what is your main guild? etc, etc.

9. I do not rally care, as we have player from all around the world, so should these be held all around the world? It is great for those that are in Europe, but for all the rest, this a involves quite some challenges to make the journey. So consider on how you would consider if this was held in Australia next year? Japan? or Brazil?
I would like to compare this Minecraft's Minecon, some of the reasons why they stopped doing these was just the location issue, and that they started to have problem finding locations for this event (the last two event had 10 000 respective 15 000 attendants), it was held 4 times in USA and 2 times in EU. Leaving out the huge chunks of the player base, Australia/New Zealand, Asia, South America, Middle East/Africa to name the biggest areas. So yes meetups are great, but not everyone have the possibility to attend due to travel distance/costs...

"10" Open only Power play makes sense, but we need to address the Power Play specific weapons and modules. Today mechanics to unlock these are stupid, and only creates many passive players that are only pledged to get the weapons/modules, doing a single 750T cargo trip to gain the needed rank on their 4th week.
[edit] I would like to make these weapons as reward in doing those story mission, let us know why these modules/weapons was developed, etc, etc.

And when you buy a ship in shipyard you should be able to choose those specialized builds beside standard version.

They tried that with military slots and passenger cabin slots that only be used for certain modules, that move was almost immediately followed by dozens of threads requesting that specialised slots be opened up to fit things like, well just about anything, fuel scoops, general cargo, fuel tanks, it was just endless demanding threads, I think they have given up on that idea now so I donn't expect this to happen ever. Now I am not saying it isn't a good idea, but the endless demands become quite irritating after a while.

3. Trade between the players. There should be a possibility of trade between the players. They have decided it's never going to happen, there are various good reasons for this, umpteen threads discuss this very thing so I shan't bring them all up here.

6. Storage. There should be storage at the station for everything. We have currently storage for our modules, but why not for commodities or engineer/guardian materials? This also is not to be.

Bigger hard points use bigger ammo in side, so this count should be balanced.

Sure carry extra ammo in cargo, but I would be against automatically loading from cargo, you should need to disengage from the fight, manually load the weapon magazine from the cargo and return to the fray, and this would need to take a certain minimum amount of time. A cargo hold is set up to carry cargo, it's not an auto-feeding weapon magazine.

P.S. And yeah... Power Play should be OPEN ONLY.

Nope, nothing should be Open only, the game was sold as all modes being equal, there are entire communities of players, Mobius for instance, who would be adversely affected by this so not an option.

+ split of open/group/solo

group/solo should not affect open galaxy and have other commander slot

No, I have argued against this before but it boils down to this, oppostion against other commanders is mostly futile as defense is stronger than offence not to mention that most wouldn't enjoy grinding twice to have the same resources in solo/PG and open.

Hi there Commanders and FDevs.
Recently I was talking with my friend about Elite and what this game is missing or what should be changed to make it better and more enjoyable for people to play.
I would like to share those thoughts with you guys and hopefully some (all?) of those can be adapted to the game itself.

See this game is about CHOICES not Lack of choices. So this is a NO from me.

We do have some online help that can help players.

No this game is not paid to win Play to earn it.

I already seen some good ideas. Like, be able to access while in supercruise so you can get in CQC. Give a warning when they are an opening.

Not sure on this one. I think it could be exploited in some ways.

I don't think so. I could see buying good and then save them until their a boom system and sell them. Can we say exploit?

I say hall no. We already have a way to store extra ammo by Synthesis ammo. Instead of wasting most of your ammo on shields why not use some common sense and use Lasers to take out shields so you can stay in combat longer.

It sounds like something a spy would come up with. Nope.

Sounds like a great idea. Problem is not everyone lives in the same area. We have 200+ countries.

So that's what we were thinking off what could drastically increase the joy of playing Elite.
And what do you think about it? Do you have any ideas of your own?
Cheers.
I think it would drastically Hurt the game and we would lose members because of some of the ideas.

P.S. And yeah... Power Play should be OPEN ONLY.
And I disagree with you. It should be accessed by everyone. Equal rights for all.

point 7. big yes. but also weapons should be reworked: remove spin off time for multis, increase laser damage fall off at least three times, missile speed increase (the can hardly catch its target right now) and generaly all projectiles speed. weapons seems greatly underpowered compared to how strong shields and armor can be.
