Let me fly my own ship out of the detention centre

The situation is absolutely absurd. If you die during a mission to a settlement that means you commit a crime, you get teleported X lightyears away and your ship impounded, so you have to book a taxi back to the system you were in, then transfer your ship to that station, all the while waiting on timers, taxis, and being barred from gameplay.

Let me play the game.

Per Paul Crowther's description of intended crime and punishment, this is a bug:
Criminal Death:
  • When a player is killed and their bounty is claimed they will spawn in a Detention Centre
  • If the player's ship was destroyed before or during the player's death and they paid for their ship rebuy, their ship will be at the Detention Centre, clean and waiting for them
  • If the player does not pay for their rebuy they can take a free sidewinder at the detention centre or a free Apex Shuttle from the detention Centre concourse
  • If the player's ship was not destroyed before the player's death it will be waiting for them at the Detention Centre
  • If the player's ship was Clean, the player will be able to board and fly it
  • If the player's ship was Hot the ship will be impounded at the Detention Centre
Ship Impounding:
  • When a player spawns in a Detention Centre all Hot Ships the player owns will be 'Impounded' at their current locations.
  • The player will not be able to transfer these ships or take them out until they pay a 'release fee' (This is a portion of the rebuy cost for that ship)
  • If the player was in a hot ship that was destroyed, it is not impounded, the player simply pays their rebuy and their ship will be clean when they respawn.
  • If a player was killed on foot and their active ship was hot, they will not have to pay for its rebuy, however the ship will be impounded at the Detention Centre.
There is no urgency to be condescending about "do the crime", "play the game as it is" when it's not the intended gameplay.

Aye, cuz IRL they let you park your car in the prison long stay when you do 3-5.
If I wanted realism I wouldn't be playing a game. At this stage if someone asks me "should I get this game?" honestly there's no way I can give it a good recommendation. It's a disgrace that it's been released in this state, and it's a disgrace that gameplay time is wasted so insultingly.

In Horizons, when we are sent to a prison ship, we always could transfer ships or purchase a sidewinder. It is a very well known and oft used game mechanic. Why would using an Apex shuttle obviate precedent? One should be able to choose whether to use Apex or their own ship.

It's as if the developers have never played their own game.
On the other hand Odyssey could have been mainly outsourced, which would explain the ludicrous UI and ignorance of common Horizons gameplay.

Well, you could just Apex to the nearest proper station, book a ship-transfer to there, and run missions there while you wait. You don't have to just sit around.

The number of Commanders who wanted Odyssey to be so good but suffered crashes or game-breaking issues makes me weep.

It's great for those who are able to enjoy Odyssey due to luck or their particular playstyle. But I really wish the lucky would not diminish the frustration others are having.

So we have one half of the players clamouring for more immersion, and another clamouring for easier gameplay...yeah I don't envy the devs having to walk that tightrope

I'm just asking to be able to use a shipyard from the detention centre in Odyssey without having to jump through hoops with the Apex taxi. If you really want to take an Apex taxi, I'm not telling you not to. Not sure why this is so complicated.

Why would they have ship yards? It's a prison.

Can't do the time, don't commit the crime.
They already have shipyards in Horizons. They've just broken access to them in Odyssey content.

"Can't do the time, don't commit the crime."
Then over half the missions they've implemented are a waste of time and totally pointless.
Not like the mission servers are working when you try to hand in most of them anyway.

Don't play star citizen then.. its ultra realistic to the point you got to contact the tower and get permission to even depart... its not simple like it is here lol.

You need to play the game that it is, not the game you want it to be. So either don't die during missions or play something else.
Per FD, when you die on foot, if your active ship is hot it's supposed to be sent to the detention center with you.

So joke's on you, you arrogant ass.

My worst experience was after I got some hacks for the first time. I came to a base to pick something up, you know a simple pickup mission. I was so scrub that I didn't realize that a scan would put me hostile...that isn't what happened though. I ran up to a console and found the container...when pressing B on the controller to back out (spamming like you seem to have to do sometimes) I came out of the console and crouched. Without even realizing it, I pressed B again to un-crouch, but I had my cursor over the console. B is also the hack button....Instantly the whole place went nuts because there was a guard coming down the path. I died pretty quickly because I didn't realize what I did and wasn't expecting to fight. I end up in prison 30min+ away from playing the game. That kind of waste of time just makes it a pain to play. How many are just going to just give up after something like that? There is already an elevator to a hanger for player ships, they just serve no real purpose. What player is going to come pick you up if you can just shuttle out. Just storyline it to make it part of your release fees or something that you ship was brought to you.

They're not broken - you just have to hand yourself in whilst IN your ship. If you're on foot, they're not gonna stoop the bill to tow your rig to the prison for you.
Again, I'm asking for access to the shipyard. I have a hauler parked there already. I should be able to take that, without jumping through loops with the Apex taxi. I should also be able to cough up the impound charge, request transfers and pay the transfer cost/wait the timer if that's the path I want to take, without being forced through Apex loops.

Maybe the plan is so that once completely new players realise what a mess this waiting loop is, they're already past the Steam refund window.

So, when a cmdr commit a crime is sent to detention. When his sentence is expired, he get out of the detention center (jail, for all intent and purpose) and has to get a taxi to go back to his belongings.

As a criminal, would you expect a parade and an ice cream for having been a bad boy?
