Let me put forth a scenario...

"Well hello there Cmdr of the transport vessel I have just interdicted. It seems that you are carrying conductive polymers. Would you be so kind as to inform me as to where I can procure my own set of conductive polymers since they most surely did not appear out of thin space?"

"Nope, can't tell you that. K thanks byeee!"

"Well as you may see good sir I AM in a deadly war vessel, and I am also in great need of some conductive polymers. I would much rather be on my merry way to whichever outfit produces and distributes them. You see I am rather wealthy from many years of hard work and dedication and I would prefer to spend my hard earned creds on conductive polymers rather then MURDER you and everyone on your vessel for them."

"Nah, neva gonna tell ya."

"Ah, well... you have left me no choice... are you SURE you wouldn't rather give me the coordinates? I am absolutely willing to forgo violence in lew of simple directions. I won't even tell them you sent me. Diamondback Scouts honour!"

"Nope"

Sigh...

Hard Points Deployed

-------- SCENE II----------

"Hey, Jack?"

"What's up Jill?"

"You know, I see these Cmdrs floating around for hours and hours looking for these improvised components and those rare metals that they find planetside."

"Yup. They spend days lookin' for em'."

"Well, and I'm just spitballing here. But what if we hired a team of people to find as many of these commodities as possible, either from the companies who make them, because they can't just appear out of thin space right? Or they could float and roll around for them also. Hell, we're paying them they just have to find then. Next step we set up a shop somewhere. You following me?"

"Uh, yea seems pretty straight forward so far."

"Right well, we put out an ad on galnet saying we have these components for sale. If my math is correct, based on the demand, supply, time for acquisition, and rarity I think we can make millions of creds per unit here. Plenty enough to get that fancy new Zorgon ship you've been wanting. Really it's just basic economics. I can't believe none of the mega-corps have gotten in on this cash cow! I would have thought that there would have been tons of people trying to start a business like this."

"Math is dumb Jill, shut up."

I present to you in simple terms why the system around engineering modules makes absolutely zero sense. Please FDEV, insert some logic into your game.

I'd like to know why these items aren't purchasable with credits, as well. Conductive polymers, heat dispersion plates, focus crystals (of any sort except shards) etc don't just magically appear out of thin space. Someone has to manufacture them. So why can't we buy them? We don't want to steal them (at least most of us don't). We are willing to pay for them. And yet they aren't on the market? Why? Because there's no market for them? Please. You manufacturers manufacture these things for credits and then you won't take mine in exchange for your product? Are you alright in the head?
