Horizons Let me tell you my story...

Hello commanders, friends and foes. To anyone who still remembers me - Salut!
I will try to make this story short.
I bought ED early last year and played it a lot. I loved it, despite it's current at the time shortcomings. I had more than 400 hours until last summer I had to stop playing because I didn't have enough time. At that time I was super hyped for Horizons. After it got released I was constantly checking on it and following news. Recently I had a couple of free days for my self and I decided to finally pick up Horizons from the black Friday sales at Steam to give it a good spin. I booted it up, updated and started playing two days ago. First day I was messing around checking stuff up. Landing on planets you know how it is. Yesterday I decided I will finally start unlocking Engineers. I did the deeds for Tod "the blaster" and got to Selene Jean. I undocked my trusty ASP with it's mining fit and went mining. Spent the whole afternoon getting 500 tons of ore. It was tedious slow and generally just as boring as it was 1,5 years ago. But I said to my self, well whatever I get it... players have to experience everything. 500 tons is a bit too much but... okay, as long as I get good upgrades after that. I continued and got the 500 tons and to my amazement this was not the end of this task. She now required of me 10 Painite. I remembered Painite was hard to obtain, impossible to buy at stations but it was not impossible to mine out. So I restocked on limpets and jumped to the nearest system with Pristine Metallic ring. Started prospecting.1,2,3,4,5,6,10,20,30 asteroids... no Painite. I started to get worried and tired from all the mining. I went to restock limpets and called it a night. Today I continued. Head out to the belt and started prospecting.10-20-30.... Jesus... Finally 1 Painite. I made 1 ton. Then continued 10-20-30... Omg what is happening I can't take it anymore, I thought to my self. I was going mad, only the Mass Effect OST was keeping me sane at this point. I ran out of limpets. Went to base changed 2 planets same thing. Found 1 ton more from 30 asteroids. Now for the past 2 hours I can't find a single ton. I can't, I think I give up. This is.....[sad].. What is this???:x How is this normal, people. What is happening? To unlock the Engineer? So difficult. And I hear that there is a ton more grind to actually get upgrades. I am sorry. I am done. This is not the gameplay I remember. I can't believe that this is it. That this is the content. Forced to MINE for 2 days. My 2 free days = GONE. And not even unlocked this one Engineer.

Please, tell me what is happening? IF Painite has become so hard to find because of the Engineers update then...? What about things that are more rare and require missions. What about all those materials? Why does it feel to me like this is no longer a game? I abandoned EVE online because it felt to me like a job after 2 years and ED was a breath of fresh air. But this grind... makes EVE look casual. For 2 straight days I felt like I am on my job. This is not immersion. This is drowning...[sad]

P.S Couple of hours later - gave it another go. First system - 20 asteroids = nothing. 21st = Painite 50% High = 12 Painite from 1 asteroid.... I never knew RNG could be such aaa **** in this game

Go into SC then go back to the ring and try again. Painite is rare but subject to RNG.

I understand that it's bad RNG but this is beyond my tolerance. It is just too tedious with an ASP or any ship of this size. There should be a disclaimer on those Engineers not to try to get in touch with them if you don't have Anaconda. With this RNG I have to waste hours to prospect and restock because I have small cargo. Perhaps Anaconda with 500 limpets prospecting whole afternoon to get 10 Painite and unlock the first step of the grind is more reasonable. Sadly I can not go this way. I am deeply saddened that it has come to that. I feel useless with my small ships. And I like them. It's funny because I have Corvette unlocked and I have over 600m. I just refuse to create and fit a dedicated ANACONDA for 1 step of unlocking an Engineer. TO MINE...10...painite. This is absurd.

Hip 23585

A bit far out but the pristine metallic on the AB1 body (inner ring iirc) has tons of painite. Never had a problem finding it there even within 15-20 minutes of random mining/prospecting.

Has been my go-to ever since I got my mining cutter outfitted and probably responsible for a good 90%+ of my 25mil of mining profits.

Just done a couple of mining trips for gold for the latest CG. Painite seems to be no more or less abundant than it has always been. I was very fortunate when i unlocked Selene because I got 12t with my first rock and already had the 500t as an experienced miner. I posted about it. And i think mining is pretty cool so it wouldnt have bothered me if i did 20,30,40,50 rocks..

From a roleplay point of view, I would expect that the cool stuff would be randomly hard to find. Millions went prospecting for gold in the Klondike but only a few made their fortune. You seemed to have got the wrong end of random, but you got there and had a memorable game experience!

PS.. paragraph breaks would have spared my poor old eyes. Have some rep anyways!

Prospector limpets, use them on pristine metallic ring roids and only start mining if there is painite inside.

Delkar is a good place...
