Horizons Let talk about Miner? Nooooooooooo!

It makes no sense!

Mining remains an activity in extremely boring and thankless ED. You do not get absolutely NOTHING after 2 or 3 hours mining (slaughters two Sider ship and you will get more in the bounty).

Even to collect rare materials - when you have the luck to find them - nothing is profitable or will give you great benefits.

Finding materials, minerals, rare in ED. It has nothing to instigate pilots to mineirar. Even drones have - lose them we have.

Cargo Scoop - Lose all your time reaping A ore ... to sell it infinitely below any expectation of profitable price.

In short - the ED development team seems to be not the least bit interested if players like it or not the game. Start from the idea that the more boring and tiring the game is, the better for Frontier. :S

Nothing instigates mining. As for NPCs? I do not speak any more - the community is showing that the direction taken by the ED developers team is wrong.

I enjoy mining.

Sure it's not the BEST way of making money but I do make a lot of money doing it.
Pretty much everything is profitable because it sells for 100% profits. Your only expenses are fuel and limpets which probably come to about 5000 credits per hour maximum which is less than a third of a ton or palladium.

Edit: Just checked in game - 19mil from mining and I've only done it for about a week back a while ago. I intend to return to mining after my exploration trip.

How so? Markets pay miners exactly the same price as they pay traders or anybody else. They pay specific prices for goods, and they don't discriminate how you got them (as long as the goods are legal).

And all the money from the sale is profit, except the cost of spent limpets which are very cheap.

Fair enough but that doesn't mean you can't do mining. I have a job and real life too (it sucks :p).
All it means is it will take longer to get into a bigger ship or get that whatever you want to purchase. I'm quite happy waiting a few months more for my combat corvette if I enjoy what I'm doing. Which is actually why I haven't got one yet...

OP, what would make mining exciting for you?
If it is not now, then it probably will never be because ... it is what it is. Shooting rocks, collect and manage your refinery.

I don't think there is anything they can do to make mining interesting for me. It is pretty boring in real life too. Some things you just cant make exciting.

Each day you go mining, shorten the fuse by an inch.

Set it on a timer, blindfold everyone and try to escape before it blows up.

Try and set it of by throwing rocks at it.

Not sure how to make Elites mining more exciting, maybe ramming bit off?

I'm not a regular miner, but the 10/12 times I did it I found it to be a very relaxing experience. Just me amongst an eternal sea of giant rocks, against a beautiful backdrop, drifting along the rocks while limpets fill the hold, seeing the "night" fall and slowly becoming engulfed in darkness... Can't really explain why, but it felt good. :D

Before 2.1 you were safe from Npc ships after the first 'landing at the site'. Now you have to watch your back.

Best thing? They made it that the OLDEST prospectors always die first, if a new one is shot [used when all in use].
Big game changer for how I prospect.

Love mining.

3 Condas and Vette I use... yah.. they ok.

ALSO new! ULTRA settings on SHADOWS while mining in a day-side. NICE! Utra Shadows also makes interiors of starports feel more real.

I was mining last night. Mining can be profitable but only profitable if you take a bunch of missions to get specific ores ahead of time. Otherwise realistically even with a max loadout you'll be lucky to get 2-3 million per hour. Its really hit or miss and you still can only mine in one spot - pristine metallic RINGS. Nobody mines at asteroid sites. Nobody mines in ICE because diamonds are ultra rare and other items are uselessly cheap.

So mining in a system with multiple stations and pristine rings you can pick up missions, get some ore and cash them for profit.

Payment isn't that bad, I make couple million on any trip. As for the activity itself that certainly isn't something for everybody, I certainly couldn't do it all the time but here and there chilling and relaxing a bit while mining around I can fancy that.

They cannot make mining exciting. The only way to make it more interesting would be to entirely automate it and integrate it in a hypothetic Industry update. As it would be all about management, and they've said that's not the kind of game they want, well, mining will remain stupidly uninvolved, and any attempt to make it more involved will only succedd at making it more tedious.

I like the fact materials are there now.. but you just don't get any rares ... and I'd like to see ultra rare gems pop up here and there. There needs to be a random element in there that makes things worth it. Some rings have higher % of random drops. For example Emeralds, Rubies etc. Maybe uranium or something unexpected.

Random rare collectable gems and minerals that are exotic and worth a lot of money to geology collectors.

Also having a "drop table" is garbage. I can look at a rock and it doesn't matter which one I pick - its going to be the next thing on the "list". It would be ideal if some of the rocks had distinguishing characteristics ahead of time that did determine its makeup. It makes "eyeball" mining so much more fun.

Those of us who love rocks and geology would love to see some sort of rhyme or reason to why the rocks look the way they do.

Also - the fact that the rings have different hue's and shades and colors should also be reflected in the rocks present. Presently there pretty much are 3 types of rocks and it doesnt matter. Just rocky, ice, or metallic.

It can be exciting with rare minerals and gems to find. Something we can "see".

Imagine a procedural gem creator. Like the character maker they do something similar for rocks for us to collect and sell/trade.

I love mining and its the activity I use to introduce new players to the game since its easy and a simple source of income. Once you can do that, you always can build back if things go south.
