Let There Be Light

when will FDev finally bring light into this darkness? The game is so pitch black that it's almost causing a depression. ;-) No, it doesn't but it's <nope> black. Just watched some SC videos, ships flying over a sandy surface, in daylight. Man, that is beautiful. Even, that the planet surface was sandy and rocky. Just great to see this beautiful scenario. Yellow sand and blue sky. Awesome. Let the vitamin D production begin.

SC does look awesome, and the performance is very good now. The ships are beyond stunning, extremely immersive. Still a long way to go before an actual game is there.

As far as ED goes, as much as I want to land on atmospheric worlds, I would rather they wait till they they can get it right. Here's hoping we at least get some basic moons with atmospheres within the next year.

Btw, if you haven't seen the reclaimer salvage ship interior tours, definitely have a search for a vid on youtube. They based that ship on the Nostromo.

Great. I'm going to watch the videos you recommended. Yes, it's a long way to go till SC hits the stores but I think it will be worth waiting for it. I hope it will come with a decent gameplay. The eye candy is awesome but the game needs to be interesting and the player needs a purpose or an overall goal that he can head towards. Just a sandbox with useless tasks to fulfill would be a bad thing. I haven't played Elite for a loooong time. I might give it a shot at the weekend.

Gonna go out on a limb here and say "that's not going to run on a potato!" Looks amazing, but it's so far off, I have some hope and a little faith that ED will be on par by then.

I'll see your SC release date and raise you SC VR support :)

VorpX is fine for VR in SC, as long as you have a beast machine. Full VR support was confirmed in Jan, I don't see SC being out for a looong time though.

Back to ED, from what they have acheived on current worlds, am confident they will eventually pull of a masterpiece, have never lost faith in the sound and art team.

Watched Obsidian's space engine video, I really wish the art team would take a look at the Stars in that sim, looks amazing. Planets are great but the mesh wasn't as good as I expected, actually prefer ED in some ways.

Surely in the absence of an atmosphere, planets should be quite harsh and binary in terms of light. SC plants are atmospheric, ED's are not [yet]. That SC video looks nice, but I lack faith in the Roberts given experience of WC / Star Lancer etc.

Oh, and don't call me Shirley etc.

I am going to be honest here, that video didn't impress me. For a start it is BEIGE lol If you took the ship and the actors away, could anyone tell the difference between ED and SC?

Most importantly, it isn't gameplay, all games look great in cutscreen (suggest you go back and look at some of the early ED promo videos, they looked amazing yet showed actions that still aren't in the game!)

You should probably check out some videos online, visually ED doesn't come close to SC, and you know I am huge fan of ED despite the various flaws. Not even sure what planet that was in the video I posted, just a random dusty world.

Gameplay, I agree, but it is in Alpha, although I watched some trading videos and I already prefer SC to ED on that front.

Definitely room on my hard drive for both games. In all honesty with ED am patiently waiting for exploration to get an overhaul, then I'll stay out in the black for the rest of my days, as far as game play that is planned, I'd take SC any day.

My prediction for star citizian, once they fully start implementing all of this gameplay, it will buggy as hell, then all the balancing chaos we see here at ED, it will be a long time before things settle down. Am just sitting back and watching the progress, not getting involved until things are solid. Following it and learning so I am not a complete noob when I start playing it.

If SC is half as good as Freelancer was in terms of coherence, fun gameplay, simple but working mechanics and a good story, then I can't wait to experience it.

I'll be honest: I really hoped for ED to be Freelancer 2, but it's not, and is far from it. It has its own strengths, but in terms of engaging role-play sandbox it falls really short even in comparison to the old Freelancer.

But then both Freelancer and Star Citizen are produced by the same guy so it may just happen to be what I was hoping for.
If it ever leaves alpha, that is ;)
