Horizons Let us find elite dangerous products for free

Hello DEVS and Frontier - Programmers

Finding Paint Jobs , Decals and Weapon Colors in space or on planets would be a big booster for frontier and the backers as well as people looking to buy the game.

Having these Items in old boxes or crates on some planets or floating in deserted ships in space would be a real cool addition to Elite Dangerous and give more enjoyment to exploring. I don't mean to copy other space games but there is the fact of all that empty space out there and not much to find or come across. I believe frontier could add these items and more out there better than it's ever been done before anyway.

Please look this over and let us know what you think. Thank You Stardragon88

Personally I think that is a bit too MMO-esque. :D

But paintjobs and decals as a faction or special mission rewards would be nice.
But I guess it isn't happening, as they are only meant to be a flavour and an "earning on the side" kind of deal.

But I would be for finding REAL interesting stuff on planets, of course. Salvage weapons and modules from crashed ships and such.

They should give us a chance to earn them in game as rare drops. Spices life up a bit especially if its one of the things that isn't on sale right now.

I would rather have achievement-based decals/paintjobs that are purchasable via the store but only unlocked by in-game achievement. Such as:

Naval rank patches for my Holo-Me
Site-specific decals that unlock for visting specific locations (SgrA*, Beagle Point, Guardian Ruins, Soontil, Formidine Rift, etc.)
Paint Jobs unlocked for participation in high-profile Community Goals
etc.

EDIT: These could be purchasable as sets of decals/paintjobs, etc. so you could purchase one decal pack for military ranks that would contain all the ranks as part of the pack but you only get to use the ones that you unlock in-game.

I had an idea ages back like an achievement system, for each achievement you can pick a paintjob of your choice from the store. Max 15 achievements, cannot be reset or refunded, account specific. Gives people a taste but keeps the majority for game funding.

Own 3 different ships = 1
Visit Sag A* = 1
Get top ranked in one of the navies = 1
Defeat a capital ship = 1
Destroy a player who is in a more expensive ship than yours = 1
Make over X profit in a single trade transaction = 1
Fly over 100,000Ly total = 1
Spend over X time in game = 1
Unlock all engineers = 1

Add a few more make them varied levels so that most (~75%) are long-term achievements and some are mid/early game. Give players some reward for milestones.

If they were put in game as random drops they'd have to be rare, like 0.001% chance and it would 100% have to be random otherwise someone would have a list of places to go within the hour. :p

I also quite like the achievement based idea that appear/disappear depending on your in-game actions.

As Chris Simon mentioned... it is indeed a bit MMO like, and I do not like MMO in general, but nevertheless I think that might be a nice idea.
I think people love these types of things.

What I would like even more is being able to find containers with pre-configured pre-engineered weapons and utilities etc.
Sometimes the stats of these might be just a bit better than what we can engineer ourselves.
We would pick these up and if we want them we can fly to a station to have them installed.
Like I said the stats on these would be fixed: These modules can not be re-engineered.
You would perhaps need a cargo hold to pick them up.

I'd also like there to be interesting things to find while exploring. But preferably something less immersion (and business model) breaking than paint jobs, decals etc.

Driving around, finding stuff. It's a bit Pokemon-Go ish though, isn't it?

But yes, community achievements should be rewarded. Now we can have suit patches as an alternative to ship decals. :)

The "I killed Salome" reward should be a big circular glowing target on the ship. :D

Personally, I think that "I killed Salome" reward should have been removing the character from the game and placing it into books. :D

Chris
Sorry if I came across in a childish sort of way. But I was thinking more along the lines of a Freelancer Mod named Tekagi's Treasure finding items like better thrusters and engines and the like in a more grown up space episode.
But if ED keeps getting updates for years to come I'm sure updates like this will come in time. I just like to help out a little where it looks as if the PC Game is missing something.

Perhaps occasionally as an incentive for community goals.... But Frontier have to make money from somewhere too.. or else where does the funding come from eh? :D

I do love that Achievement Idea Someone mentiond...I actually was going to suggest that later this week haha. Although Credits would be a better approach.... :)

It's easier to rain on the Moon that FD give something for free.

It costs money to have Beta test that only helps them....short sightedness.

Well go get your pan and space lander out and gather some water on the moon, I've had plenty of things for free.

100% free:
PAX East Sidewinder skin - Livestream reward
PAX South Eagle skin - Livestream reward
PAX East Eagle skin - Livestream reward
PAX South Vulture - Livestream reward
Gamescom Asp skin - Livestream reward
Gamescom Vulture skin - Livestream reward

Gold Asp skin - Early Horizons purchaser, unexpected reward
Desert/Polar/Lunar Cobra III skins - Horizons pre-order, unexpected reward

Chrome Eagle skin - Community goal reward
Distant Worlds Decal - Player group decal
Fuel Rats Decal - Player group decal

Powerplay decals - Still free on the FDev store

Sort of free:
Special effect sidewinder skin - Charity donation I'd have made anyway
Special effect decal - Charity donation I'd have made anyway

Lavecon skins (9 total) - Visiting Lavecon 2016, something I did not do for the skins but nice bonus there
Black Friday skins (29 total) - Horizons pre-purchase, again not something I expected but a nice bonus

And that's not including the rise to power community goals that gave away like 9 decals as I was 50,000Ly away at the time.. Oh and next week - Cannon decal from Allied with faction and/or community goal.

In short there is some free stuff to be had, just gotta be in the right place or have a bit of luck. There's a bit of an iffy business about the 3x horizons pre-order rewards (black friday, gold asp and cobra III skins) but I've put them in categories depending on if I knew about them at time of purchase. Same with the Lavecon skins, I knew of them but they weren't the reason I went to the con.

The final thing I'd note is that a lot of the money can't buy skins are some of the most awesome:

I appreciate your effort, had really work to find drops on the Moon.
Now let's get serious ... no lotteries or special events

I think the idea came from here and make sense, you cam buy stuff and you cam win a lot of stuff... just playing the game, for achievements, for hours of gameplay
but I think you already knew that. ...
