Let us set the default firing angle of Fixed Weapons.

Fixed weapons only point one direction, that's true. But who says they all need to point forwards?

I came up with this idea while playing with my T10. Fixed weapons are just impossible for it, because of the weapon convergence.

But what if you could change the fixed firing angle? On The T10, for example, you could set them to aim inwards by default, so they converge about 1km away. Beyond that they'd spread back out again, but so what? At least there would be one range at which they work, as opposed to currently, where there is no range at which they work.

Imagine if in outfitting, you could go into the weapon modifications tab and change sliders for Left/Right and Up/Down. They'd cap out when they hit the ship, obviously, but otherwise they could fire wherever you wanted them to fire. And then the weapon would point that way when you deployed them in flight!

This would really help a lot of ships that have issues with weapons convergence, and open up a lot of fun options for players.

As a T10 fan with many combat hours in it, I can tell you this wouldn't help. Why? Because it is simply impossible to dictate combat range in a T10, even engineered to the gills, unless you're fighting transports.

Being able to set convergence would be an immense boost to ahips like the Clipper, but the T10 would reap next to nothing in practice.

On paper != In practice

Changing convergence wouldn't particularly hurt at closer than convergence range, however. If you're using a weapon with a relatively short range already, then having them converge at that range would only help you, not hurt you.

Now extend that by the other two kilometres and you've got a fan of fire across an absolutely huge area, which would be funny for friendly fire threads but fairly daft.

Based on the type tens blueprint the outer hardpoints are around 100m apart which works out at 1914.8 meters of spread at 3 km's. Unless I'm too drunk for trigonometry.

edit 191 meters.

edit edit : you could park a corvette lengthways in the crossover and have 30m to spare.
