Horizons Lets discuss "How to leave station unscanned!"

I turn of my non essentials modules and put on silent running.(and dump heat sinks)
Go for the letterbox and press boost as many times possible but I still get scanned... :(

Any more suggestion or changes in my routine? :D

Keep going in a straight line once you leave the slot - don't turn or manuever for your jump until you're about 8km clear of the station.

I don't use SR or heat sinks for this, just full pips to ENG and lots of boost.

Good luck :)

Target the Mailslot ---> make sure way is clear ---> BOOST

In general that's it. Every ship that can make 350m/s or more should be fine getting out unscanned this way.
Another possibility is, if you are more often at those places than it's useful to get allied with the station ow ing faction. If you are allied with them, than you won't get scanned in 99,99% of all cases even when camping in front of the mailslot.

Keep an eye on your radar in powerplay controled/exploited systems because there can lurke powerplay ships around stations. They like to scan you too and there helps boosting and if necessary heatsink/silent running. You won't get fined from them for illegal cargo or passengers but some of those passengers just don't like to get scanned ;)

That's it. no need for silent running or heatsinks. 4 pips to engines and boost straight out of the slot. Most of the cops will be circulating around the entrance, but occasionally there's outliers, in which case boost away from them. Cops are easy to spot if you're allied because they're green. If you're not allied, change direction and boost away from all ships. if you wait inside the slot for a bit, you can figure out who's coming and going, so you can plan your escape.

You didn't tell us which ship you're flying and how fast it can boost. [noob] Speed is one of the keys for sure, but also the most important - do not dawdle. I remember before engineers and thruster upgrades, that even with a lazy boosting ship it was possible to avoid scans. Of course nobody told you to smuggle with a Python using D/C rated thrusters with full of illegal goodies slowing you down even more...

Well, for instance, if you have to High Wake to another system, and this system happens to be obscured by the station, and a flock of security ships are flying around like piranhas, that is when it's getting psychological. If you're flying a ship that cannot outrun security ships, but has more mass, then the fastest and safest way is to Low Wake by boosting away from the station regardless of using silent run or not. This mimizes your exposure in the area.

If you decide to High Wake, fly straight for maximum velocity, and reorient your ship only after you're far enough from security contacts. Like I said earlier, do not dawdle. Doing any zig zag in front of the station, or start to circle around it to have a clean shot to your next system is most likely a fail move.

If you pay attention to the security ships in the area, they usually consist of one or two patrols with several ships per group. You want to be heading out of the station at a high speed the moment when the leading ship of a group(s) is not facing the station entrance. Always monitor their activity if you see them starting to gaining up on you in an attempt to scan you. Depending on the situation of course, but because High Waking takes long time for the FSD to charge, it is sometimes better cancel High Waking and enterer Low Wake instead. It can save you from a succesful scan when the range is very critical and you know you're about to get scanned.

Before you leave the station lock a destination that is in the same system you are in. That way you don't have to be pointing at the target to jump into supercruise. Boost away from the station, go into supercruise and once clear then go to the Galaxy map and select your real target and jump into hyperspace.

You only need to boost out of the immediate patrol range of the enforcement ships that circle the station. As said above, we don't know what ship you are flying, but if you get "scan detected" hit the boost and hit it again as soon as you are charged up. But usually, I believe you need a boost above about 350 to really be sure of getting away.

Otherwise, to avoid the "scan detected" in the first place the above advice is best - boost as soon as you are lined up with the slot and you are sure the way is clear. And boost in a straight line again asap.

I would even suggest that a boost of over 320 is more than sufficient. Make sure the pips are full on ENG so cap recharge is fastest.Just keep boosting in a straight line away till you're clear. They might start the scan, but you should easily be able to get out of range of their scanners before it concludes. In my experience it's more of a problem avoiding being scanned on the way in than any risk of scanning on the way out. That's why I perfected my speed-docking strategy*

To escape from station unscanned:

  1. Undock
  2. Start to leave station
  3. Leave station in straight line.

Done.

if you've got some friends in the station its easier because they tend to left you alone.
if not speed up when in the mail slot and boost while leaving.
Watch out for incoming traffic, but once boosted twice you are at the rim of scan area
and have patroling ships behind.
Already works for 95% of stations I needed to left unscanned.
Maybe you should also consider the ship you are flying and its components because
things are diverse when you are flying an Anaconda instead of a Clipper.

Miklos

Going slightly OT (because it applies only to selected stations) some have mentioned that if you're allied with the controlling faction you probably won't get scanned. I too have noticed that the chummier you get with the station, the lower the incidence of scans. Is this just me (and a few other cmdrs) extrapolating from a relatively small sample? Or is this indeed part of the game mechanics?

(I ask this because I keep on accepting tourist missions where they are wanted in several systems (but not criminal, mind you) and I wanted to figure out if I'll get killed or merely have a bounty set if I get scanned. Which I never seem to do.)

You are correct in what you say. It is a lot easier accepting "sensitive" passenger missions out of a friendly port compared with a port where your rep is low.
