I realize this topic has probably been discussed several times before but I’m not a regular to the forums and don’t see any current topics open about it.
Without having any idea on exactly how FD plan on implementing it, I can’t help but think that the addition of “space legs” may add to this game in more ways than some realize. No one knows when this expansion will come but I’ve heard rumbling and rumors that this will be season three’s big feature and I think that is probably correct. In fact I think the fact that they are adding passenger missions now might be a clue to that. A lot of people have mentioned (correctly) that passengers are nothing more than a new type of cargo mission. I think Frontier realize this, but also have bigger plans in the near future for passengers. If we had the ability to walk around our ships and interact with passengers then suddenly they are something different altogether.
This kind of leads me to my main topic of this post. Let’s assume for now that season three gives us the ability to get up from our seat and walk around. How do you think this feature will be implemented in the beginning? (To keep this post to a reasonable length I’ll stick to ships only for now.)
I really hope that areas of our own ship are not “off limits” to us. Please don’t have impassable doors or sealed off cargo bays. The thought of being able to roam my ship and see the cargo, check on subsystems from wall mounted displays, make repairs, see passengers interacting, etc. sounds extremely cool and offers some new possible game mechanics as well. Additionally, there’s no better way to show the scale of these ships than being able to walk front to back and see just how large of a vehicle we are actually flying.
So what are your thoughts? Do you think we will be able to freely roam our ships from day one or maybe just the cockpit area at first? Do you think we will ever get free roam as I describe above or will they always be mostly unused space?
Bonus Concept Art to show that Frontier appears to being planning on fully accessible ships.
