I'll start with a couple from today.
1) I'm not a big fan of doing rares trading, but it's extremely profitable for merits, and maybe it should be looked at again. Anyway, my lesson learned was that I sold off a full Cutter's worth of rares to a system that was being fortified, and received no merits. Even though the Pilot's Handbook clearly shows "Sell Rare Goods" under Acquisition systems AND Reinforcement systems, I am pretty sure the merits only come from selling them to Acquisition systems.
2) I only realized today that there are Powerplay Containers in Ody settlements. The contents can be sold with other PP 2.0 materials (like some downloadable data) for merits also. Don't need to burn E-breaches on them, just get level 3 (or maybe level 2 might be enough, not sure) and look up the crate combos on a terminal. No matter what you are doing in the settlement, you can/should get these mats to convert to merits later. On a related note, I also learned about Power specific malware. These also can be used to gain merits while doing other on-foot activities in settlements; they are illegal so don't get caught with them and it's best to disable alarms before uploading. There are 2 types of malware to upload to settlements controlled by an opposing Power; 1 is for undermining, the other is for all other enemy settlements.
