Let's spice exploration up a bit.

Should players carrying exploration data drop black boxes upon their ship's destruction?

  • No! I play in solo when selling data but I still don't like this!

Been exploring off and on, and I'm about to go out on another run. I've come to the conclusion that one of the ways to put some excitement into it would be to make explorers returning with their cache of data a honeypot for pirates, and it'd give the pirates something exciting to look forward to also.

I propose that all players who're carrying exploration data should drop black boxes upon death, which can be sold on the black market for a discounted amount and no faction increase. There's also the option to do this for bounties. ;)

Edit: You could also make this mechanic leave the black boxes of dead explorers in USS's for a period of time in that system, so that Explorers who fail to make it back can go and try to recoup some of their losses.
