lets talk about axploration

Hi Guys

I'm rather the explorer than anything else. But for me there are not many attractions so far. Sure, i can fly to star system xyz 1000LYs away and discover the objects on the way there and take a different way back, but thats it. I would love to see some improvements here. For example:

1. how about discovery outposts at the interesting objects (nebula, black hole, giant star, ....). it feels much better to finish a session on a station rather then in deep space
2. i could imagine that extraction sites would like some discovery data about a more or less near asteroid cluster or belt. how about missions that offer some credits in exchange?
3. some companies might wonder why their goods transport never arrive. sounds like an investigation job for some scouts.

i think there are a lot more options to make a scouts life more interesting.

what do you think? lets collect some ideas. if not in ED 1.0 than maybe as DLC later.
 
Regarding 1. someone else said something similar about traveling to some phenomena and expecting to find a station or something there because it was an interesting place. I kind of see it. But I also think people will invest in stations and outposts where they can make money. Metal pays the bills, a bit of fuel for the odd explorer not so much. I think part of exploring is being out in the expanse, I'd be gutted if I made my long journey and bumped into too many others. 2. and 3. absolutely. Somebody suggested a search and rescue ship/modules which does sound interesting. Even the equivalent of a northwest passage mission. They know the systems that no-one has been to so they can say to someone with enough explorer rep 'can you be the first to system X for us?'. The more I think about it the more metadata they have on us as pilots and the more interesting missions that should (and I'm sure will) result in.
 
You do realise that the USS should be considered as a part of exploring a system? Just asking.

i dont see the USS as part of exploring a system. what i experienced so far from USS is

- pirates that want my cargo
my firepower is barely good enough to defend myself. all i can do is scare a pirate into hyperspace.

- security vessels that obviously followed a distres call by a long gone ship
im clean and without cargo so no harm to me

- ship wreckage and floating cargo canisters
i travel in a light ship with no cargo rack at all, so i cant collect any abandoned cargo.

you see, USS is not of any interest for me as explorer by now.
