Letters to the boy..

For one reason or another I don't see my son. It's all very complicated and I will skip over the whys and wherefors.

I write to him a lot, it's one way but that's cool, if it's all I'm able to do I'll happy do that.
I'm 41 and the boy is 10.

Recently I've been telling him about elite, he loves gaming and has a wild imagination on him.
So anyway I set up a private blog for him to read, stories of how I started as a rookie pilot in a sidewinder and my adventures thus far.
Tales of tracking a bounty across solar systems to earn my bread, when times were hard and I had to resort to pirating to get by.
The struggles to free slaves from the process, the lives and ships I saw dashed as a mercenary Crimson pilot in the great system wide "battle of Lugh".
There is the picture of the blue white star in binary with k class Giants.
The video of that lonely pilot heading into dock at leesti, hold chock full of the rarest items in known space.

Last week I told him my plans to invest my lot and explore to the centre of the Galaxy, to go see the wonders...

He's started to reply to my posts, he talks of being out in the garden, looking up. Wondering if it might just be true.

Great game and has opened up a million possibilities for me and the boy.
Thank you FD

Whole thing very moving and inspirational but this particular bit is brilliant. It IS so true. We are all out there...

Nice post. If you were going to invest in a copy of the game for your son, I'd be more than happy to donate my now unused x52 to him.

A touching tale. Thanks for sharing.

It makes me proud that videogames are able to bring such happiness to people.

If the universe is truely infinite in however dimensions you wish to consider. What you say IS true.

We are out there.. Exact duplicates living the life our games depict.

Becuase an infinitely small probability multiplied by infinity must be equal to 1.

Well at least I like to think of it that way. :D

I share your pain dude, being a dad counts for squat in this country.
I'd get banned (and quite possibly arrested) if I used these forums to tell you how I feel about how the British 'justice' system treats dads.

Yeah man it's well weighted but that's probably for a different forum haha.

To the fella that wanted to donate an x52. Wow, very touching and one of the nicest things I've seen from a gaming community ever, just amazing.

Who knows where this will take us. For now we will continue to head out into the darkness and I'll keep reporting from up there...

I've had an estranged son myself. He's much older now and working for a living, but when he was younger...

Anyhoo, the offer is genuine. you know where to find me.

Refreshing post....so much better than the whinges and moans of late. I am glad you have found something to bring you and your son closer together.
