Level 2/3 scans...

So I keep reading about cmdrs getting level 3 scans etc. How does this work, the system seem completely broken to me. I'm doing level one (ping) the system when I enter, then I do detail scan of planets (level 2). Some say you get closer to planet to get level 3 but that don't seem to happen for me. :S

Hmmm, detailed surface scanner ... maybe? - Just guessing, that display seems mixed up to me as well.

Level 3 counts are from detailed scans before the 1.1 update in February. Current detailed scans are being shown as level 2. Yes, it's screwed up but I think it's just a display issue and your total detailed scans are just the sum of the two figures. Can any beta testers say whether this has been fixed with 1.3?

Its fixed in 1.3. checked yesterday in PP beta.

I take it this fix is retroactive as well and not just from next patch onwards?

All your data should be correct, I had 44 Level 2 scans and 3000 or so level 3 in PP Beta, which sound about right.
In the live game I have 0 lvl 3 and 3000 or so level 2 and since I started exploring after 1.2 all the numbers seems consistent and retroactively correct.
