Level 2 and 3 detailed scans

Level 2 and 3 detailed scans finally have numbers!

I've got 703 level 2 scans, and 56 level 3. I don't know what the numbers mean though, and a detailed scan of a star just now didn't change either one.

I believe the numbers are only updated when you sell the data.

Level 3 scans are detailed surface scans. Level 2 scan are basic scans. At least, that is the intention - I'm not entirely convinced they're accurate currently.

My stats aren't accurate at all the last time I checked. If level 3 scans are Detailed Surface Scanner scans I should have way, way more than zero.

interesting.

I assumed that the level 2 and 3 would be something to do with scans once we can enter planet atmospheres.

I do hope they add new skinner boxes we can fill up when that content comes.

Still Bugged. I just returned from an 8KLY round trip of exploration with an ADS and DSS. My Level 3 scan count remained the same as when 1.2.07 was released, while my Level 2 scan count increased significantly.

The numbers are reversed. As I understand it, my Level 2 should have remained the same, while the Level 3 jumped up, since everything I scanned on the trip included the Detailed Scan.

Cannot complain too much for a 12MCr trip and a bump to Ranger, though. Considering selling my Cobra explorer and outfitting a T6 explorer, now.

I've always explored with both the big disco-horn and the detailed surface scanner, but I have zero Level 3 scans.

I'm confused. Did I use it wrong ?

After scanning I always get the "Additional scan data analysis complete" ... or something to that effect. When I sell the data It has the "Detailed Surface scan" - tag.

I'm sure it is a bug in the system used to give us the results from the past. Not sure if it will be fixed. I would like to hear from someone who has cashed in their exploration data after this update was made to see that everything is working well now though. :)

I did. Level 2 increased, level 3 remained the same. I remember when I first started I did a few scans without a DSS and I have just a few Level 3 scans and loads of Level 2's, so yeah - I think the numbers are reversed.

I turned in my 8K LY trip yesterday. The update happened while I was still 2K LY out.

On sale of data (all scans with ADS & DSS):

  • L2 went up
  • L3 stayed put

I just did my first exploration "expedition", but even after dozens of detailed surface scans performed and cashed in, I still have zero Level 3 scans. Something's awry...

I heard a theory that the lvl 3 scans are only displaying DSS's sold BEFORE patch 1.1. I'd like commanders to try and think if that would fit the profile for their career numbers. It does fit mine!

'level 3' = DSS scans from before 1.1
'level 2' = DSS scans from after 1.1

at least that seems to be the best fit for the data so far.

So at present your total DSS scans are the sum of the two figures and there are no figures for basic scans. I'm sure it will be fixed before long.

Maybe we're looking at this the wrong way?
Perhaps level 3 scans is the number of objects scanned with the fog horn, or basic scans, L2 is Ads scans and we'll see a level 1 scan implemented in a future expansion with something to do with ground level scans?

just a random speculation, I confess, but the figures on my stats screen would seem to tie in with the actual number of systems parped and subsequent ADS scans completed and sold prior to the patch ( not sold any since as still out on the rim) - if viewed that way round I mean...

Could be right. I started playing after patch 1.2, so i did not scan anything prior 1.1 at all.
Before last update i had 0 lvl 2 and 3 scans like everybody else.
After implementation of last patch i was out there and i had around 1000 lvl 2 scans and 0 lvl3
Coming back my lvl 2 scans raised to 1600 or something and lvl3 stayed at 0

I hope they'll change it becouse it does not make a lot of sense.
Possibly they'll implement a new type of scan that you can do while landed on a planet and that would be lvl3

The good news is that something kept track of our work all the time.
