Engineers Level 2 FSD mod potentially as good as Level 5? Not impressed

I dislike gameplay relying heavily on RNG. There, got that out of the way. That said, I was not aware of how much the engineers mods can vary in results until I decided to bite the bullet and have a go at an FSD upgrade or two.

If this link is to be believed, a level 2 upgrade can result in up to a 14% increase. A level 5 upgrade can result in anything from a 15% to a 44% increase. I can't imagine anything more annoying (in game) than rolling a 15% boost at level 5, after slaving away finding materials that themselves are heavily reliant on RNG spawn rates.

RNG appears to be here to stay, but FDev - could you PLEAAASE tighten up the tolerances on the engineer results? This is just utterly de-motivating and disheartening for anyone who desires a goal to work for. My only goal now must be to get enough materials for 10 rolls, and hope for something in the 40+ range at some point! And what is worse, I could have to grind up materials for 10 rolls, while some other lucky sod gets it in 1... life is unfair, but games shouldn't have to be! In fact by design most games aim for the opposite...

they are tighter in practice... those are the results but the positive results are weighted ...
my own experience was very positive. I rolled one FSD upgrade it was a level three... first roll I hit 23% I was very pleased!

My grade 5 FSD got me from a 30 LY Jump range to a 39 LY jump range... I slaved to get the materials for that one roll... I am happy with what I got, but I dunno if it's worth looking for the mats again... Surely I couldn't expect better than that...

Could we just stop regurgitating the fact that it's weighted? nothing against you or your thoughts Haj, but weighted or not the RNG is still RNG and it still generates garbage for a lot of us a lot of the time; hence the issue.

I am already pained by thinking over which ship to put a grade 5 FSD on. For most players, seems like we have to RNG our way to not just one good FSD, but like 5-6 FSDs for most players with decent but not huge ship collection.

The fact that this happens would make it even worse to get a bad roll. I honestly don't see why luck should be a factor in a game like this, but given that the RNG is here to stay, at least make sure the levels don't overlap much! Rolling a level 5 update that could end up barely besting a level 2 would be enough to cause a few rage-quits I imagine...

Same here... I have a Clipper and a Cutter that desperately need more range, and an Asp that I'd like to kit out for some extreme long distance exploration. The other ships I doubt I could be bothered to try...
