Level 5 Power Play unobtainable with Felicia Winters?

So I worked it out that you need to earn a minimum of 3,480* merits per week to get to or maintain a level 5 rating of 10,000 merits.

I've reached level 4 and want to progress to level 5 with Felica Winters. I get 25 merits every half-hour for delivering packages, so to reach 3,480 merits I have to do 140 runs.

That's 14 hours constant flying every day!!

From the manual:
  • You gain merits by successfully completing preparation, expansion, fortify and undermine tasks for the power.
  • At the end of each cycle, the total number of merits you have accumulated determines what rating you will be for the next cycle.
  • Merits earned from previous cycles still count towards your rating at diminishing rates.
  • Your merit total from the previous cycle is halved then added to your current cycle value. After two cycles, its value is halved again before being added. After three cycles, the value is halved once more. After four cycles the value is no longer added.

I think the idea is to reinvest your PP credits/bonus into accelerated package buying. I've done that a few times, especially when my trading dividends have been really high, but at level 4 you're getting 5,000,000Cr per week, so can buy 500 accelerated unit for nothing, excluding the bonuses for delivering etc. If you want to get to Level 5, I think you'll be spending a chunk of your own money, or as you said playing flat out for a week!

Interesting.

So for argument sake I had 100M CR (for the 10,000 Merits) and I stocked up a T9 with 500 per trip. It would only take me 20 trips; which for me is 2-3 hours a day flying.

Then you can use 33.5M of the 50M CR reward to rinse and repeat the 3,334 merits you need to maintain level 5.

You forget that the cost increase with rank.

Lvl 4 25 points per 30 minutes cost you 250K to unlock points directly. So you could buy 500 points and trade in for merits for 5 million.

It's hard/slow if you are only waiting on packages. I am rank 5 mainly though a combo of undermining and fast tracking packages. (Also with Winters).

Reaching the top Rank should be no easy task.

Suggest you invest your salary in fast tracking and work out routes to do your missions that will bring you in a profit while you do them.

It's worked fine for me.

Rank 5 is the 'Elite' of Power Play in a way.

Looking at your chart. By the time 14 weeks have past you should surely have earned a few credits to fast track and have a bigger better ship along with decent trade routes.

Relax, you can do it.

It seems to be a common idea to you judge merit income by "number of powerplay goods per half hour", and it's a bad one.

You can happily spend credits to get extra goods now. Whether you choose to do that or not is your call. I just earned 150 merits undermining enemies over about 40 minutes, and paid nothing, so that's another way to earn more. That's 22 hours of gameplay across the whole week. A far cry from your claim of 14 hours per day.

Play smarter, not harder.

I agree, but at this moment its also totally unrewarding 50m Rank5 salary are nothing...since you need to spend much more for merit fast-tracking...and the same goes for Rank4..

Ive been rank 4 for 2 weeks now and only play about 4 / 5 hours a week and not paid a penny towards earning merits.

Just saying... and the OPs figures might be wrong, but 3400 merits (the claimed amount to sustain rank 5) * 10,000 = 34 million. 50 million - 34 million = 16 million. How's that not rewarding?

i thought maintaining rank 5 would cost 1250 ??
and buying merits doesnt increase with rank-its the same ammount/more merits being bought at the same time

No its about 5500 merits a week to maintain rank 5

No its about 5500 merits a week to maintain rank 5

How are people coming up with these numbers?

Whatever is happening in-game at the moment (and from the threads on the forum about it, it seems like nothing remotely predictable or sensible) the wording in the manual is unequivocal: merits TOTALS are carried over for 3 weeks, first halved, then quartered, then eighthed. Thus, once you've been at rank 5 for 4 weeks (i.e. your merit total for the last 3 weeks is 10k), you only need 1250 to keep yourself there.

How does half of 1250, then 1/4 of 1250 and 1/8th of 1250 get anywhere near 10k?
