Leveling Up Imperial Rank

I decided to rank up my imperial stripes and looked through missions to see that tourist missions were offering the ones with that chainlink icon. Off course it is not handed to everybody. Only CMDR that have a reputation level high enough can get those missions. No problem, lets get to work. I have run several missions now and am allied with some, others I still need to earn reputation.

I am sure that with the faction I am allied to, there were these ranking missions. Now that I have earned my reputation, they won't show up. Instead they show up on other factions that I have not yet become allied with .... What is this nonsense? It seems like it is programmed to just taunt the player.

Anybody else notified this behavior of the game or is it just me that is unlucky? ... I could go on a rant with , but lets just call it a dopamine deficiency.

No ... they need to come from the chain-link missions made available. Being allied to a faction is just done by running reputation missions.

the point I am making is that these chain-link missions show with a certain reputation level, but once I get to that level they no longer show up. The ones that do are with another faction where it is also greyed out. So I can't take that mission unless I fill the requirement.

When I started at this station there were like 5 missions with a chain-link. A few were showing up on the faction that I am now allied with, but now ranking missions in the list. So what is the point in gaining reputation, when the ranking missions are still kept out of reach ... Very annoying!

I wonder if FDev has purposely programmed this in.

I strongly recommend just couriering data between Ngalinn and Mainani. You can fill up on missions in both systems and just jump the data over to the other. You can hit Baron in a matter of hours and Duke in a couple of days. At the most. On top of that, by taking the credits instead of the reputation rewards whenever the reputation reward doesn't come with any credits, you're just printing extra millions. It's mind-numbing, but I just watch a show or listen to a podcast while I do it.

The rank grind is complete nonsense anyway. I've tested the old 2-system approach with the Fed missions, and those appear to have been nerfed everywhere, but you can still pull this off easily with the Imperial rank grind. Just do it in something fast and maneuverable, because loading up on these courier missions draws a lot of attention, and you will be interdicted from time to time. However, I find that it only happens about once every 5-6 trips.

Thanks ... I will give that a try. Although I am already at level Viscount. I just want to step it up to Duke so I can get my hands on an Imperial Cutter.

No worries. Even at that level, each mission you turn in gets you 1-2%, so you're looking at 5-6 hops (19 missions per hop) for that rank up. On this account I didn't even bother going past Baron for Summerland. The Courier is really the only Imp ship that I fly. Anyway, I hope it helps either now or in the future.

Yep .... still went ahead with that station to gain reputation for the ranked missions. Now I am up to Friendly as required and now the ranked mission need a level of Allied... I am certain that as soon as I reach that level, nothing will show up ... With other factions I am already at Allied and no ranked mission show up, where they did before I started the grind.

FDev ... get it together. This is the worst you came up with. I have been busy for hours and have not ranked 0.00000000001%. I am simply unable to get a ranking mission in this station.

Not that it probably matters, but the station is HR 8423 / Thuot City.

I will try the suggested method "couriering data between Ngalinn and Mainani" ... i hope that will help ranking up. But this attempt has been quite frustrating and is was not a positive advertisement for this game.

Nah, it's a great game really, but a lot of it is sorta permabroken. You have to find ways to ease the grind with rep tricks, relogging, and in the case of PowerPlay, sit around doing nothing most of the time until you absolutely need to get your merits.

As for Ngalinn and Mainani, you just check the boards for data missions. All the factions except 1 are Imperial, and all the deliveries are between 2 stations. It's absurdly easy rep. Boring, but easy. You'll be a Duke in no time if you're willing to do some light FedEx work.

Chain missions are triggered by the completion of missions. All missions have a chance of generating them but the ones with the best chance are Donation and Courier. Also chain-missions are generated when the board is opened so you can refresh them by reloading the board.....

There are new missions, but no chained missions. I waited hours (dinner time and other stuff) and came back. Looked at the board and no chained mission other than the ones greyed out saying that I do not have enough reputation.
I logged and restarted the game .... Still the same issue ... Only chained missions in the locked ones. Always a higher reputation needed and the ones that I am allied with show no chained missions.

This system of ranking is broken to ,,,,,,

Going to try Shabina's solution ...

You missed the critical part of my post. Chain missions are triggered by completing missions, especially the ones I specified. If you sit there and do nothing you will get nothing.

I will have to complete missions to get my reputation up and that is what I was doing. Thanks for pointing out though. Sitting still and waiting for the board to change is not going to work. You're absolutely right with that.

In the meantime I have moved over to Ngalinn following Shabine's advise. With good result. Lots of courier missions and my first ranking mission popped up.

Remembered:

Those chain missions are also from missions you get after clompleting a mission you receive in your ship inbox. Those can be of higher REP status and look the same as rank up missions.

The "chain" rank missions will not just pop.
They wil pop only when your Rank progress bar fills up.

(they are rank progression missions, if dont have enough progress to rank up, you wont get a rank up mission - dont mix reputation with rank progress)

Ok.. my understanding is/was that i need those chained missions to gain on rank to fill the ranking bar.

So you are telling me that every mission adds a little and that the chained mission is to rank up to the next level.

I am Viscount and on the cusp of becoming Count and the chain mission will do just that?

If I keep doing the regular missions i will be stuck at Viscount. I will be at 100% bar, but u will never flip the rank up?

I guess I am way of the tracks on this one... 🤔😯

OK ... I did one chained mission as a courier in the bunch of missions and I got promoted to Count. But also already have 61% on the bar.
So it seems my understanding on the ranking was off.
I was stuck at Viscount ,,, Now I am Count. With doing missions I see the ranking bar going up. Chained missions are to flip the rank to the next level.

Thank you all for the patience in not understanding y'all.(y)
