That would be cool. Maybe some basic history too. I'm still kinda fuzzy about the nature of the various governments and the state of the galaxy, so some info in game would be cool (I'm sure some googling would help solve that, but I like the immersion).

I believe that there is a wiki with most of the details and bits of the timeline was put in one of the books.
Also, one of the authors wrote or should I day rewrote the timeline with details for Frontier since this was needed for the authors to write representative fiction for them and it will be up to Frontier to decide how to present that info but I guess that some of it will be hidden until you visit a system to explore its library or its neighbours library and possibly buy the information, a bit like travelling to Rome and buying a guidebook for the city and then the local history as well (the history will be tainted depending on from who's viewpoint you are getting the info from).

That should be in the game with a Lexicon, Codex to learn more about Elite.

I agree. Far too many concepts, and lore for that matter, is unexplained in-game.

I really don't want to have to break the immersion and have to go googling in hope of finding valid information.

Come on FD, throw the "Commanders Guide to the Elite: Dangerous Galaxy" in there for Pete's sake. And mine as well. :)
