LHS 3447 to Sagittarius A* WITHOUT HYPERSPACE

The long-awaited conclusion of my SAGA Project. I flew from LHS 3447 to Sagittarius A* in a 50ly jump-rage Asp Explorer. During the trip, I targeted and aligned to Sagittarius A* and took a screenshot before each jump. I then took all the screenshots and played them like a flip-book. The result is what you see: what it would look like to fly across the galaxy with extremely fast Supercruise.

Thank you all for your support on the Elite forums, Reddit, Steam, and the discord servers I frequent. I hope you all enjoy!

Now do it in a 6ly Sidewinder so the frame rate is smoother. ;)

Seriously, that's very impressive. It really gives a sense of the scale of what FD have achieved with the galaxy simulation.

The thought occurred as I was watching it for the umpteenth time that if someone with an insane amount of patience plotted a route through, around, over and under the galactic core and used the same technique, it would reveal even more of the structure of the galaxy.

The further thought then occurred that FD themselves could almost certainly simulate this using dedicated code and/or a customised client to send a series of requests to the galaxy server ("put the camera in at X,Y,Z aiming at X1,Y1,Z1) and stitching all the resulting images together into a galactic tour including flybys of all the nebulae and other interesting structures.

I'd love for them to do this. There was talk early in the game's development of the possibility of an educational tool that would allow free exploration of the ED galaxy and the simulated stuff within it. This never happened, possibly because it could be abused to locate interesting stuff before flying there in the actual game, or maybe because in all honesty Space Engine already does this to a degree that's hard to beat.

But as a demonstration of ED's scale and structure a pre-rendered full galactic tour would be amazing. Any chance, FD?

REP!!!

It felt like watching one of those old-school NASA videos from space. :)

Very cool!!! I am building up an urge to get out there and do Exploration... like... a PROPER trip.. I will wait til 2.4 though, with hull repair limpets and syntheis to create limpets. :)

Thanks for the inspiration, OP!!!

you can kind of do this already with the galaxy map, just zoom in a ways and pic a directions ahead of you and start scrolling, but yeah it would be cool to see it from the perspective of a ship instead of the simple map rendering.

Thanks for posting... I've been looking forward to seeing this and I was not disappointed... Now Frontier about the time it takes to jump their normally, I think we now need a drive that can do it one ju... I'll get my coat. :D

How dare you disrespect all the OP's efforts?.......oh wait :D
+1 and wow for video and patience.
