Newcomer / Intro Liberate the Slaves

So after picking up a job from a Federation faction to free some slaves, not only did I realize the nearest ones are far away in trigger-happy Anarchy space, but they are also kind of expensive (at least for new players), so I had to regretfully Abandon it.

However, when I looked at a tutorial on how to do the Mission, I found myself asking:

If a Federation faction is asking people to help free slaves, and specific pilots pick up the Mission, why are Federation Security Forces still going to blow you out of the sky for holding slaves (for the expressed purpose of liberating them)?

Because reasons.

Slaves and the transportation of slaves (AKA human trafficking) is illegal in the Federation. In the Elite universe, the police shoot first and don't ask questions. Your honorable intent means nothing. A crime is a crime is a crime.

Also, the game gives you tons of time to find the slaves, anarchies aren't always incredibly dangerous, and you should be able to scratch together the 20kcr to buy two slaves in about 15 minutes bounty-hunting. The faction rep boost is pretty good too.

Haha, I figured as much :p

This is true. Five days should be enough to scrounge up the cash and the resources to accomplish the Mission.

Only (as evidenced before) I am still a craptastic pilot, and from what I gather you'd need Smuggler's piloting skills to evade the fuzz fast enough to dock without being scanned and whatnot.

If the mission is from a big rotating starport, yes. Learning to land like a ninja is fun though.

Just line yourself up about 9km out, 4 pips to engines, full throttle and boost to get to maximum speed. You might need to boost again depending on how good your thrusters are. Request docking as you fly, then press the key to deploy landing gear about 2.5km out. The moment you get to the letterbox, zero the throttle. Your gear will deploy and you'll end up stationary about halfway along the length of the station.

Alternatively, take the liberate slaves mission from the outposts. No fuzz to bother you there unless you're very unlucky.
