Liberation missions set you up to fail no matter what

My mission was to free 6 hostages from a type-7 cargo freighter.
I took 12 hatch breaker limpets with me, and I used every one. They all connected, and I saw a successful message every time, but only 1 hostage actually fell out of the hold.

When I used all 12 limpets, I shot out his drives then shot out the hatch to 0%. More cargo fell out, but none of it was a hostage.

I had to fail the mission because it wouldn't give me the correct number of mission items despite doing above and beyond what I had to do.

Last time I take a liberation mission.

You can hop out and find another mission instance... I guess people might consider it immersion breaking to do so, but it does work. I thought they took those missions out for now anyway... guess I was wrong obviously. Also, unless the target ship has multiple Point Defence, only use 1 limpet at a time and wait for it to finish hacking before launching another. Multiples attaching will cause them to start popping themselves.

I did use them one at a time.

I don't have a whole lot of experience with those missions, but of all the attempts I made, 100% of them dropped all the items I wanted when I got their armor low. No hatchbreakers. Shooting the cargo hatch just made them drop random stuff. It seems you have to make them choose to drop it.

Yes, I have been calling on them to fix this obvious bug for a while now. I wonder if Piracy missions have the same problem?

If you're lucky, heavy damage makes the target flee, dropping all the mission-specific cargo.

... if you're lucky. It's pretty rare when this happens.
