Life at bases and starports, for the New Era

Just few suggestions for the “NEW ERA”.

Make starports alive. When we land we can see those small trucks going round and round and these are nice.
But to bring more life in the stations there should be more. I made a list of things that would make the starports feel more alive.

Features required only at our landing pad:
  • Shadows of people walking inside the control towers
  • After docking a couple of trucks (the ones that go around) should come on the landing pad and approach our ship to simulate services.
  • When we transport politicians or VIP, when we land at destination there should be a small delegation of people waiting for the arrival.
  • Everytime we accept one or more passengers transport mission, when we request departure we should hear a bus approaching the ship and people talking. Then a chime (like the seat belt sign in the airplanes) confirming that boarding is complete. After that the landing pad goes out and the ship can leave. 15-20 seconds in total. When we land the animation should start in the moment we complete the mission and the landing pad stops moving.
  • When we make cargo delivery missions there should be the same sounds simulation as for passengers but instead of people chatting there should be some robot sounds plus the cargo scoop opening and closing sound. At destination we should see trucks waiting for us.
Generic features for all starports.
  • Add trucks on predefined patterns at planetary bases and cities too.
  • On small outposts add limpets that moves cargo containers in-between the buildings or make reparations and do generic activities through the various buildings
  • In touristic starports add people near landing pads spotting spaceships and waving.

Personally i cant wait to enforce pre-flight checks on everyone lasting at least 15 minutes, and a realtime cargo loading sequence where it takes 45 minutes before you can take off, and then enforced traffic control like airports where you have to book your flight take off & landing slot with 4 days notice, complete a landing form along with NOTAMs and flight plans otherwise be refused docking privileges

in fact.... i reckon there should be a treadmill plugged into the computer where if your flying a cutter you need to walk 1.2km from the pilot lounge to the ship, climb 346 steps to get on board, then walk down another 2km of hallways to reach the cockpit... oh i cant wait!

im having an imershion overload right now, but you will all learn to love it, just like those hardpoint animations which add sooooo much joy to the game MUHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHa

in all seriousness a little station diversity and background shizzle may be nice, but if it increases time in anything / craps out FPS i have many pitchforks ready.

ps is this a suggestion which belongs in.... suggestions??

I actually took part to some Fly-in events in Flight Simulator with traffic controller servers and it's true that there's some time to wait. In a couple of hours you could perform only one flight leg, but damn if it was cool! One flight but very intense and very immersive. But I can understand this is not that type of game so even if your description sounded terribly cool to me, I realize you would absolutely hate it.
We have right now optional checklist, so we could have some of those animations optional too if for some players 20 seconds is too much of waiting.

More life? How about immigrants, gang members, pickpockets, beggars, shipjackers, drug dealers, and of course - hookers, hanging out around the loading docks and inside the base public mall. Because you know IRL, that's exactly what we'll have, and an overabundance of them at that. Perfect examples would be found just outside the bubble, where all those adventurers who hooked their entire life on a bet that luck will see them through out there on a new world... only to have made it as far as this station.

And while we're at it, add customs inspections... you can stand there all day in line/(queue).

:ROFLMAO:

Ignore me, I've had way too much coffee today.

The problem is, for every one person asking for new features that add to the immersion of a world, there are at least ten others who deem such things a waste of time. Look at BFV, for example: People constantly complain about immersive animations, because it gets in the way of their gameplay.

But having some stuff moving around your ship in the hangar or around stations doesn't necessarily mean you had to wait until they finish to continue doing whatever you wanted...

I think the OP doesn't want "blocking" animations like hardpoint outfitting. He's referring to the static, dead galaxy that would truly benefit from a little (actually more like huge) life injection. One of my favorite game additions ever was traffic controller voices. It has no impact whatsoever on gameplay, but made stations feel much more alive.

Good grief. OP was only suggesting a few side animations, shadows and sound effects, which are very welcome!
Not a complete simulation of Los Angeles in a can.

The animations/sounds should happen in the background and not be mandatory to watch. Only visible with camera mode or
future space legs. I could deal with that. The docks are pretty dead in their present form.

I look forward to queuing at station customs..... 🛃
will it be effected by Brexit?

i think the stations need to prepare for brexit and jameson memorial will need a backstop deal, the thargoids wont give us a deal and were led by kermit the frog in any negotiations going forward.

there will be a voting system much like the pointless issue tracker but frontier just overrule the outcome and plow on with brexit regardless.

I'm quite sure that after Brexit, authority scans will be a nightmare! Heat sink will be a standard module in all ships!

I'd love this stuff too but isn't the problem that people could shoot at/get in the way of/interact any little people/trucks/drones etc in multiplayer? So everything would have to have AI and be passing data to everybody... Not impossible but more difficult than it seems.

Yep, that would be appreciated. At least by me.
What about adding of "more life" to stations..I would recommend began from adding parks and greenhouses of extra terrestrial biomes. As places, where to walk around, to heal your musculature after long trip etc.
Also, those places would be most different from everyday workplace - a cabin of spaceship.

From transportation systems on the stations and starports i would prefer monorail trains, hanging tramways, "hyperloop" etc.
Also, to have possibility to avoid "annoying walking" toward own ship for pilots, to add high-speed lifts and rapid escalators.
