Life gave me lemons :(

Hi all, today sucked!
I died after my game went unresponsive and disconnected after i jumped into a black hole system in the core.
After i died i didn't get an insurance screen but instead a disconnected screen after 30+ seconds.
On relogging i find myself back in my ship and all seems fine.
But than after i had to relog once more after 30 or so minutes, i find myself confronted with a dreaded insurance screen :(

So i contacted support and they quickly replied (hurrah for support)
They gave me my ship back, but the most important thing that i wanted i didnt get back.
1600 systems of exploration data are gone, including Sag A*, great annihilator, and countless other neutron stars/black holes and earthlike planets.

So yea, today sucked for me.
*bangs head on desk*

Boo!

This was not an "I tried to dock an insurance-free Anaconda at 300m/s blindfolded and lost my money" thread, shockingly. It sounds like you have been genuinely oppressed by the evil forces of suckyness.

Sympathies.. is it worth updating the ticket to point out that the data wasn't restored too?

(Mike, Edward.. do you know if this is something you can even tackle?)

that sucks.... I'm always worried about that and I find myself doing short stints into the void versus long runs.... I go out 2000LY.... then come back and turn in.... I have yet to go all out and do a SAG A run.... But, maybe after I hit my smaller goals I might do it...

I really hoped that my exploration data could be restored too.
Maybe it can but i'm not sure, support said they weren't able to restore the data.
I was 4 weeks in on this exploration trip and really bummed out about the loss.

Ugh.That's terrible.I know what kind of effort and dedication you need to scan that number of systems :(
Best of luck to you for your next journey, CMDR.

“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Silent_Star lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

Without the faintest clue what I'm talking about, that exploration data must be somewhere. If it's only held on your machine surely they could ask for a copy of the appropriate data from you and use that?

Look on the bright side at least you've not spent all day trying to figure out where the "Uknown Artefacts" are and what they have to do with the price of cheese.

Rep from me also....it's better than nothing I guess.

And this, ladies and gentlefolk, is one of the big reasons I'm not doing the exploration thing. The thought of putting that much effort into the game and ending up back at the beginning because of a freak alignment of celestial bodies makes me shudder, and would probably result in me wiping all trace of Elite from my drive.

Yes, it's possible I have impulse-control issues.

Please don't brake the desk with your face on top of it. :p

My sympathies though. Just got back from a 2.5k system visited round trip that did include Sagittarius A* and I been on pins and needles for a long time as about 7k from Sag, I cracked my canopy, and had the nice spider web to look at the rest of the way, constantly thinking they are getting bigger and more numerous. I did got lucky tho and made it back. After so much time out the myself I DO feel for you.

I don't know if there were server issues earlier. I missed an outpost by about 2m earlier. Was 7km out doing 250m/s, so had about 30s to kill and tried to bring up System Map to see if the output had refuelling. It took 25s for System Map to open for some reason. I hit Exit and raised my nose literally as my brain said "nice detail on those solar panels". Scary

Oh, and I love the Cave Johnson quote. The first thing I thought of. :)

They almost look like lemons, and that's the scary bit about exploration... Squeezed by lemons!

CMDR,

That's terrible :(. FD needs to find a way to make exploration data restorable also. What they should do is put you back where you exploded with your data intact.

This ^^. I don't believe for one minute that this data is held locally on our machines??? It's just another example of how exploration is badly implemented in ED at the moment.

Hopefully, it'll get the attention and love it deserves soonTM.

I think it goes along with so many other data-related issues in the game at the moment. For example...you lose your ship, you lose all your bounties...because of course, in the year 3301, everybody's forgotten about centralised cloud storage and data-safety in one of the riskiest professions around. But...bounty vouchers aren't actually related to the ship you got them in, because you keep them if you switch to one of your stored ships or buy a new one.
