Life Outside the Bubble: Player Colony Initiative

Players love community goals. That said, I guarantee there would be enough support from the community to build a new station or outpost outside the bubble.

Players in large ships unable to dock at an outpost could dump cargo for smaller ships to collect and deliver, or act as fuel tankers. If we did this in a system with pristine metallic reserves miners could come out and participate. They could buy limpets from the larger ships.

Maybe I'm just being overly romantic about this, but I'd love to see some opportunity to expand beyond the bubble. What does everyone think? Frontier?

A capital idea old bean!

I foresee a bright future of private industry funded platforms expanding human influence among the savages! And by savages I mean lifeless systems at the scrag end of the galaxy! And by scrag end of the galaxy, I obviously mean Sidcup!

Chin up old man, what what!

it is possible to build new stations?? how?
and what is the "bubble" ?
Yes, and no. Whenever a new station is to be built, and it's public knowledge, it's usually the result of an event, or community goal created by Frontier. They'll give us a little goal, and if we suceed, they might build a new station, like Obsidian Orbital in Maia. To view "the bubble," go to your galaxy map, and scroll over to the "Powerplay" tab on the left side of the screen to view faction controlled space. That's about the area where people are living in the galaxy.

I don't know if this is what the OP meant but I'd love to be part of a deep space break away colony. Fully independent from the bubble. Though you would probably need to form atleast 3? stations to make it viable.

My intent is to be able to expand. On my exploration trips near the bubble I've found lots of pristine metallic rings. I would imagine these areas are ripe for expansion.

Don't you just want to get away sometime and have a land of your own? I imagine an Independent player colony that can also be used as a station for Explorers to stop in and pick up basic outfitting, repairs, restock, fuel. At the same time, players will keep the market and supplies at these stations in stock.

Sounds very EVE-like. I don't know if ED is ready for player-based economy on a scale like that.

Yes, there were a series of community goals last October following this Galnet post...

After those CGs were completed, Obsidian Orbital was inaugurated with 1.5/2.0. It's in the Maia system within the Pleiades Nebula roughly 350ly from Sol.

There are also colonies strung out at Te Kaha, Takarua, Robigo, Almagest, Sothis, Ceos and 17 Draconis. If you fancy a trip out to 17 Draconis, bring lots of food commodities and cash. There are loads of charity donation missions to bump your Federation military rank.

Seems interesting. I've never played Eve; Xbox4life. Has Frontier weighed in on any of this? U couldn't find anything in the forums.

Back when Frontier first proposed the very idea of Elite Dangerous on Kickstarter, Braben (Elite Co-Creator) mentioned the idea of an expanding galaxy due to the player's efforts. About a station being funding by players bringing the materials. He went into more detail that it has now, with things like being able to see the station during construction, and more community goals forming upon completion of the station (ie important officials needing an escort to the station for its grand opening festivities). I see our current community goals to build orbitals like Bluford and Obsidian as testing the waters on how the playerbase would treat these events. It may be expanded upon in the future. The game certainly isn't finished from Frontier's perspective; there's so much more they want to do with the game that hasn't even come to pass yet. Horizons is but one example.

Here's the actual video. Remember this was before the game was released and was more of a "concept" thing.

Is this like a Men's Warehouse "I guarantee it" or is this more like a George Foreman "I guarantee it"? Because that'll determine how interested I am :p
