Ships Life Support engineering without condoning slavery?

Is there any way to unlock an engineer with access to Life Support engineering 5 that doesn't involve slavery (stealing Occupied Escape Pods)? Bonus points if you don't have to go to Colonia...

You can get those escape pods from all over the bubble on moons etc "distress signal" they show as..normally 6 at a time.
Now even out here in the black too

I don't see what it has to do with slavery? He's most likely pulling the plug and seeing how long they last, not putting them to work.

As much as he's a bit of a joke on the forum (whether he sells them, experiments on them or even eats them), it is in fact left up to us an our imaginations to work out what he's actually doing with them.

I mean, if he really wanted slaves he could just ask us to buy them from Kinesi and really he may only want to share his engineering with those who are willing to do some altruistic search and rescue.

I just saw it as a 'community service' job. Go to burning megaship, help rescue some people, and get their services in exchange. That's going the Colonia route, though.

If you go to the FCOC discord, you can get a ride on one of the "sleeper service" carriers and get to Colonia without too much direct time investment.

You have to go to Colonia and rescue some people in escape pods and deliver them to Mr Dorn.
Or forget grade 5 engineering on life support. It's not as if grade 5 light weight vs grade 4 makes a meaningful difference to jump range.

Mr Dorn had a bad experience as a child trapped in an escape pod for a long time. It pleases him immensly to see others rescued from the fate he once suffered.
That's the story I keep telling myself....

Whatever happens to the people in the pods is the least of your concerns.
After letting Etienne Dorn touch your ship you'll want to buy some seat covers (even if there's no visible stains) and wear many layers of rubber gloves. Then take your ship to be professionally cleaned. Multiple times.
And even then, never again will it feel not dirty.
The smell never leaves.

Eww, way to put me off ship interiors.
