Lights and other Things

Hi everybody :D

I think a few Things would make the Lights a lot better than they are right now:

1. Dimming: On of my bigger wishes about them is the ability to Dim them. Right now it is only on or off. This can Look quite unnatural at times. Sometimes a dimming Effect would work so much better. Is it possible to add a dimming Control to the Triggered Events and the Sequencer?

2. Changing Colour: This is one of the more fancy Requests, which i would just consider a Bonus. Is there a way to add the ability to change the Colour of the Lights with the Sequencer? This in additon to the dimming would result in some awesome effects :)

3. Moving Heads: Again, a very fancy Request, and like above it would give us the ability to do some nifty things.

PS: RCT3 had Lasers which could "paint" an Image to a surface... is there a Chance to see them again?

That's it for now :D

I'm curious what you guys think [big grin]

Definitely agree with the dimming of lights - that would be great. I also like the idea of changing colours - I can already think of some uses for this if it came to pass.

I think the moving heads (if I have the right end of the stick), could put quite a strain on your GPU particularly if you have the other 2 options going on at the same time.

Love the idea of dimming the lights! There are a lot of attractions that have the lights dimming and brightening intermittently to create an extremely eerie atmosphere (which is why Templo del Fuego at PortAventura is personally best experienced at night). Would love to do this in my park somewhere (I can physically feel my haunted mansion ride screaming for this)

I'm digging this Thread up because since the Studio Pack we can do nearly all of these Things, i love you Frontier!

You might be thinking: Hang on, we cannot dim lights?

And the answer is, yes we can!

And this is how: Open the Sequencer, add an event that tells it to turn the Light on.
Then color the light to the one you want as a default. Then add the "swap colour" event, and choose black as the target colour. Then just adjust the timing and duration of the Effect and Tada, dimming lights :D

...and choose black as the target colour.

It would be nice if the lights that can't be turned completely off, are updated at some point to be consistent with the others. What I mean is, while some lights output colour can be changed or dimmed, the surface of the light still glows as if on. This matters when lights form part of your scene and you don't want them glowing when they're meant to be off.

Lights that remain glowing even when dimmed to black are...

* Spot lights 1 & 2 (Studios)
* Flood Lights 1 & 2 (Studios)
* Animated lights (Studios)
* All vehicle headlights (Studios)
* Spooky lamp post
* Spooky wall lights
* All electric lamps and lanterns from main game

Lights which *can* be dimmed to black and don't glow at all...

* Square lamps
* Colourable event light
* Colourable area light
* Fibreglass light
* Fairy Lights
* Boxlight

Also some lights are missing "activate on trigger" option, such as fibreglass light strips.

I'd certainly like more lighting options, but primarily I'd like the fiberglass lights to actually produce light! All they are is a bright white panel, despite them being listed under lighting. I've tried to use them in a few of my sci-fi themed areas but as they don't give off any light, I have to end up using alternative/additional lights just to light things up! Seems kinda daft to have non-functional lighting!!

Speaking of which... I have a big request:

It annoys me a bit that some lights even when turned off, still look like they are on. The fibre Glass Lights from the Sci Fi Set DO emit light, but very, very faintly.

Could we just for consistency's sake just treat every Lamps the same? By that i mean make them:

A: Triggerable. Like, being able to turn them on and off and have the Colour changing function.

B: Make their surface dark when they are turned off. They look silly when i try to use them in Darkrides, because you can see them from a mile away even though they are supposed to be off.

A and B could easily achieved if all of the lights had the colour change function, because then we could dim the lights by turning them black, and with that the surface of the lamp would be darkened too.

Two Birds, one Stone.

:D

Yes, please! One of the best things about the triggerable color changes was the ability to finally, truly turn off lights. Now we just need that for the full spectrum (heh) of lights in the game!
